Replacement floor options for 84' K10?

Hi everyone, Seems like a good time now to think about ordering replacement floors, rockers and corners for my 84' K10. Initially I had though of patching them as this is a beat up truck, but why do a shitty job when I can do it right and do it once? Last week I measured the floor metal...

Second PCV with carb "T" or to intake manifold?

:33: Have to agree on that. I've reconnected the pcv valve as stock to driver's side cover. Still not ready to start it up again as I have to replace a burnt + battery to starter cable (other thread). Should get this done this weekend and probably start it or the following weekend as I have to...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

wrong second photo corrected Notice where the burnt cable was lying against the header tube (different shade) I'm only test fitting the cable in this photo, The cable was burned because it was against the header before I fabricated the guide tube.

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Ok, I got the lifters in, rockers adjusted, added oil, primed the oil pump and checked for lubrication at top of pushrods/rockers, and dry fitted the intake without a gasket to check for china wall clearance. **When I proceeded to install the intake with the felpro .120" gaskets and the right...

Second PCV with carb "T" or to intake manifold?

Or just remove the pcv valve and connect the hose directly to the valve cover grommet with a 90 degree fitting and let it move as much air it wants. It shouldn't suck oil being in the baffled section of the cover. Or connect a 12v vacuum cleaner to a condensation catch can that's also connected...

Second PCV with carb "T" or to intake manifold?

I guess none of the above. In which case I will leave it as is (front driver pcv/rear passenger breather) and make sure to run it longer. :happy107:

Second PCV with carb "T" or to intake manifold?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of running a second pcv valve on my 305 to get most of the water/condensation vapors out of the engine asap since I live in a high humidity area and only run the engine for a very short time. I'm fixing a coolant leak in my intake to head surface but would like to add...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Notice I also made some exhaust crossover blocking plates out of 1/16" +/- steel. Chamfered the ports with a dremel, press fit flush into the ports and a tack weld that was filed flush. Don't expect these to fall in since they do not fit all the way into the ports as they are held by the...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Torqued the heads in correct pattern at 30, 45 and 65 ft/lbs with thread sealer and oil under the bolt heads. Also gave the intake a fresh coat of paint.

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Hi, I was able to remove and clean the lifters (kept in order), remove-clean and reinstall the oil pan and installed the heads.

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Bad idea... I just remembered heads are interchangeable and blocking the rear water ports on the heads will result in not being able to use that head on the other side in the future, which will be the front water port then. Got the heads and intake back on Thursday, no work was done because all...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Thanks! I got out late from work yesterday and didn't make it to the machine shop. Hope to get the heads and intake back today. Anyways, I will not use the end gaskets, but a bead of the right stuff and the .120 intake to head fel pro gaskets and more of the right stuff on the water ports...

I prefer the first option, make sure lifters go in the same hole :grd:.

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Thanks Craig, All valid points you mentioned. Actually the 305 is a 1984 and pistons are stamped "040" so it would be 3.736 + .04 for the overbore = 3.776 the actual bore. Assuming stock crank and rods, what would be the displacement now? What you mention about the #8 getting hotter...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

All great observations! I also believe it was an intake leak from the beginning. First top end assembly with the felpro had a massive leak due to either incorrect installation, clearance or lack of sealant (only a smear), Second intake sealing with Mr Gasket and " the right stuff" reduced the...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

bucket and Prairie, I just went back to the photos and see what you pointed out. Both rear water ports have a rust line, the front water ports look ok although the gasket is in the way. The center driver's side exhaust crossover, and most of the bottom of the underside center of the plenum has...

Would like to also check for cracks in the block. Where do they usually crack?

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Thank you illmanners, I will have the heads and intake checked at the machine shop. Yes, bolts will be "lubricated" with the thread sealer on the threads and engine oil under the bolt head. Should I use the fel pro 8510 pt again or a severe duty head gasket?

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Update on what I got accomplished over the weekend. Removed the spark plugs and found no moisture on them. Removed the intake that had the Mr Gasket … gasket and the right stuff; found vanilla milk shake looking oil in the lifter valley. The intake to head sealing surfaces look ok in terms of...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Hey Snoots, That made me laugh! Just said that because I was perhaps fooled by Mrs Gasket's silicone rings around the ports, and by the fact that I used Permatex " the right stuff" on all the ports and have reduced the original leak I had with felpro 90314-1. But I do get what you mean. I'm...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Thank you bucket and Snooks, Yes there was a significant decrease in water being mixed with the oil when I changed the intake gasket the second time. The first time around it was very obvious water was getting into the oil in about 30 minutes of running I noticed something fishy with...

Milky oil after 1984 K10 305 top end rebuild.

Thank you Prairie, In this case it would be advisable to remove the heads and check them anyways to be sure? Are these cracks visible to the naked eye or do I need a penetrant dye marker?
