    4" lift no vibration

They're not very thick at all, probably around 1/4" at the big end. And yes, you want the pinion pointing closer to the ground(big end of shim facing forward).

    4" lift no vibration

The angles have to be close to the same, but the pinion angle MUST be negative, not positive. Where you're at now, the pinion angle is postive and dropping the crossmember a 1/4" more is not going to fix it to where it needs to be. You want the pinion at least 2* down, but even more would be...

    4" lift no vibration

Buy an angle finder and adjust the pinion angle, not the drivetrain angle. Even if you lower the trans to get rid of the vibration, your pinion angle will still be off. I'm willing to bet you'll need AT LEAST 4 degree shims, if not more. When I put a shackle flip on my '99 Silverado, I needed...

    Timing

I'm guessing you have an HEI dizzy with about 21* of centrifugal advance? You can start bumping the timing up slowly to see if you feel any power gains. Keep a good ear for pinging and check the spark plugs. If you go past 14* initial, you've prob gone too far and should just leave the timing...

Wasting time posting on here, pfft! Go buy it already!!!

    4" lift no vibration

Did you check the u-joints? The increased angle will definitely make a bad u-joint worse. Also, learn how to measure the pinion angle.

best lift kit for 86 k20

It's possible, but it depends on your definition of good ride. With the right suspension mods, you could make an 8" lifted on mild tread 37" tires ride like a stock NBS 3/4 ton Silverado. Of course it will take way more than an out-of-the-box lift kit to get there...

best lift kit for 86 k20

Rich has some good suggestions, but I would buy the kit without rear springs. Then get a shackle flip and a set of 2 or 4 inch lift 56" long Skyjacker Soft-ride springs. It will ride much smoother on the road and flex a ton better offroad.

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

You are the man!!! Did this today on all three of them and it's the best $1.78 I've ever spent! I just used a new utility knife blade to cut the pex(hacksaw would be much safer though).

    time to upgrade

Ok, well then since you're planning to rebuild, look for an older unit with the stacked cooler lines. The later models with the center lube cooler lines have a track record of eating up bushings.

Do you plan on rebuilding the 80E?
  15. B

    time to upgrade

What are your power goals? Sounds like you want to put down some serious power in a big heavy vehicle. That combined with a 60E is a recipe for disaster. Because the truck's not even together yet, that is even more reason you should go with an 80E. The 80E may cost $700, but you should be...

building my 84 and need advice

I highly suggest replacing the body mount bushings. Over half the GMSB's i've seen had bad bushings. Just jack up one side, clean, paint, install bushings, then repeat for other side.

    305 to 4.8 worth it?

Crank AND rods are different. If the 4.8 used the same rods as the 5.3, then the piston would be far down in the hole. The 4.8 DOES have flat-top pistons though, compared to the dished pistons in the 5.3. Now besides the piston volume, they do have the same dimensions. So you could swap a 5.3...

    KN airfilter how good

    Add-a-leafs

Like Chris said, zer0-rates are a great option for that extra one inch of lift. There's also another plus side to zero-rates. You can use them to move the axle 1/1.5" forwards or back. So if you add the one inch of lift and say you still rub the rear of the front fenders, then you could use the...

    383 or not?

With everything set up right(timing, fuel, cooling fan, radiator, thermostat, etc...) I doubt you'll have any overheating problems with a 383. Go for it!

    Lets see your lifted trucks

That run was 13.8, but the run before it I got a decent launch(1.8 60') and ran 13.30 at 99. She's down now because the converter crapped out on me, but she'll be coming back stronger than ever...Hopefully:D

My '81 with 4" lift 56's up front and temporary 8" lift springs out back, sitting on 38's. My brother's '87 with a 6ish inch suspension lift and 3" body lift. and a pic of it on the 39.5" Boggers... My '99 with a 6" Fabtech and 3" body, sitting on bald 35's. and a vid for shits and...

    Alternator Issue

You could also try using a circuit breaker so you don't have to worry about having fuses.

    Alternator Issue

I would use the wire size to determine what size fuse to run. Looks to be 10 or 12 gauge wire. I would use a 25A for 12awg or a 30A for 10awg(feel free to correct me if wrong).
