    BBC Headers, A Question....

Physics is physics...and every graph I see for headers starts out above 2000 rpm. Off idle is where the loss is, that is why I am running stock manifolds and the stock intake with unported heads. My engine is built for pulling so it reaches it's max torque at only 2200 rpm. For high rpm peak...

    BBC Headers, A Question....

I'll let you know that headers even if they fit your engine are only helping the exhaust gas out at very high rpm. The header tube is larger than the exhaust port so the exhaust pressure drops and that causes the velocity to slow down. So unless you are racing they are going to reduce the...

    emissions help?

If you can have him check the emissions level before and after the cat, then calcualate the % of reduction. That way you can tell if the catalyst is in good shape or not.

Yes, another damn Spark Plug thread!!!

I suggest getting one of those expensive but very worthwhile ball socket universal joints. They come either separate or already attached to a spark plug socket. Sure makes it easier. Or get a cheapo one from Autozone...but I suggest a Snap-On...

High idle help after replacing fuel pumps, 1988 K30, Original, TBI, 454.

Just my $.02 ... EVERY high idle speed I have dealt with on a TBI engine was from the base gasket. The high idle speed is caused by too much air getting into the engine. The ECM must then add fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio correct and that makes the engine speed up.

    Black stone oil analysis

Ok, we can rule out my suggestion since the oil has been changed multiple times. I've never put sealant on head bolts and I don't think they go into the water jacket. Do they? My next thought would be to reseal the intake manifold. And yes, do use sealant (I like the red or black silicone...

Divorced coil ignition system - What is the correct module connector?

Thanks but I already ordered the connectors. Depending on how the wires look I may trim an inch off, they are often corroded near the ends when they are this old.

    Cluster install for DUMMIES...help

I will be passing by sometime around the end of this month. I am having a custom trailer built and I expect it to be finished and I think it will be in Fitzgerald. Stay in touch and if you don't have it completed I can swing by and help you solve any other problems you have encountered...

    Cluster install for DUMMIES...help

I took a look through the installation manual and it looks pretty straight forward to me...being that I was a former ASE Master Tech with a degree in Electronics. If it came with the new coolant temp, oil pressure, and speedo encoder it should work out fine. For example: The Dark Green wire in...

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

Or try some of these, they're popular around here with everything from dirt bikes to 4 wheelers to trucks. Friend had them on a Jeep and loved them. https://shop.nordride.com/s/search/products/category/Tracks%20&%20Track%20Components

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

I couldn't read all 5 pages but your pics were great. From my off roading experience, the shocks make the most difference. Most of my off roading is high speed stuff, but bouncing is a result of not enough control by the shocks. Mine get hot even with remote reservoirs. Nice big diameter...

    Let's talk ROLL BARS

Sorry, a bit off topic here. We run the S.N.O.R.E. series, second place in 2019 #1150, and have done the Mint 400, all started wishing to do the Baja 1000. Lately the Primm race got canceled at the last minute, after everyone had arrived, glad I didn't drive out for that one. I lent my fire...

Tap head bolt / intake bolt holes on rebuild?

My tool box has pretty much the same assortment, a chase set and two various parts still remaining tap sets. It's rare that I need to put threads into a virgin hole, but I have needed to clean up plenty of other ones.

Does the Ignition Module actually control the timing?

JoeR Jr - Thanks for posting your testing. I put in a Borg Warner module and the truck does seem to run a bit differently. Nothing too noticeable, but since I make my living tuning engines (really big industrial ones) I took notice to it. I don't have scope handy or even a garage to work in...

Does the Ignition Module actually control the timing?

Mine is a 4 pin for my '87 tbi small block. So I guess there isn't any need for a different module. My stock number is 14096048 and what I read was that it retards the timing by 4 degrees at 3000 rpm and 6 at 5000rpm. My stroker is built like a pulling motor and doesn't get about 4500. So I...

    Black stone oil analysis

Does look like there is some coolant in the oil. Is this the first oil change on your build? How many miles are on the oil? If it's the first change, I would drain the oil and run it again for a few thousand miles and retest. It may be from some drips getting into the oil pan when you pulled...

Does the Ignition Module actually control the timing?

All over the internet I read things about certain modules retarding the timing different amounts above a certain rpm. So when mine quit last week I started looking for one that would out perform a stock one by not retarding the timing. I made a call to an Accel tech line and they said that...

    Gas Evaporation?

There may not be a problem at all. You can drive in with only a couple of gallons in the tank and then not start if that isn't where the fuel pickup tube can get to it. The couple of gallons keeps moving around while you are driving allowing you to get closer to empty. That happened to a...

    An oil gauge question

First thing I would do is to get rid of the mechanical oil gauge. They scare me and took out an engine before. The line broke going about 65 mph and the engine locked up before the gauge showed a drop in pressure. It happens really quick. Otherwise, if you want to keep it, you need to buy a...
