    Can You Bump a 700R4?

Not looking to start it, just bump the engine over. I know the 700R4 has a lockup converter, is there a way to trigger the lockup, so you can bump the engine?

    What Are These?

Glad I'm not the only one with wildlife problems on his vehicle. Is it true headers make the plugs easier to get at?

    What Are These?

So how much of my vacuum system do I actually need? The new carburetor has mechanical secondaries, but is the HEI distributor vacuum advance? I never understood all this, I've got tubes with bolts plugging them, bits lying about, and this was back when the truck ran, and passed emissions...

    What Are These?

Bugger, I do. Or at least the whole thing doesn't work. I was going softly around the A/C stuff in the hope I could convert it. Any idea where it should go?

    What Are These?

When I had the exhaust patched ten or so years ago, the guy said the front pipe / cat was on it's way out and he'd just straight pipe it for me when it went. There's another part I can't figure out, probably more of this emissions control. As I'm changing out the carburetor, and putting just a...

    What Are These?

If I were to remove it, wouldn't I need to bung the holes in the manifold, or put bolts in it?

    What Are These?

What are these weird pipes for in my carbureted engine? There's one per cylinder, not exactly in line with the plugs, and they go to a log, that then dissappears into the vacuum rats nest.

    Stuck Block (SBC 350 '83)

Well I got down to filling the cylinders today. Plugs all looked fine, except for the #2 (front left as you stand at front of engine) which was rusty on the end, I'm betting this is a sign that this is the problem cylinder. Going to wait a few days and try and move it a little, if that works...

    Stuck Block (SBC 350 '83)

That sounds like my, drain oil, fill block to top with diesel plan :D I can't run it, until I replace the carb, which I don't want to do until I know the block is free. I now have the radiator out for better access to the flywheel, and one of those adaptor plates waiting collection at the...

    Bottom Fan Shroud

I have an '83 C10 with a 350 and 700R4, the fan shroud is in two pieces. I unbolted the top part, lifted it out, and removed the radiator, but the bottom shroud doesn't want to come loose, is it bolted in somewhere?

Stall Speed for Torque Converter '83 700R4

So is the flexwheel specific to that one engine, how does that work when you replace it? I understand balancing as a misnomer for damping, but you mean balancing like a driveshaft or tyre, something specific to that one unit?

Stall Speed for Torque Converter '83 700R4

Yeah some googling and looking up part numbers for a 6.2 vs. a 5.7 clued me in a little, but why does the balancing matter? I thought the harmonic balancer was on the other end of the crank on both? Why do they have different flexplates, is it gearing for the starter?

    Taking power out of motor?

Why the heck did they make carbs like the Economaster then? My understanding was a typical engine at about 85% Volumetric Efficiency was usually wildly over carb'd. More air means more fuel. https://www.summitracing.com/expertadviceandnews/calcsandtools/cfm-calculator For a 355, unless...

    Taking power out of motor?

Yeah, if you want to save gas, carb is the way to go. My buddy thru a 2 bbl on his 350 because he wanted better gas mileage. I'm hoping to throw a Holley 4360 Economaster on mine, not so much because of mileage, but because the Q-Jet is trashed and it's the only spare carb I have, and it fits...

    Taking power out of motor?

Smaller carb might be a way. Take whatever is on the 305 and swap it. Problem being I think they may have put the same 750cfm Q-Jet on everything? Maybe find an old 2bbl carb. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/urm-3-3337/ Also makes it easier to swap back, if you decide you want the power again.

Just ordered a pulley adaptor, knowing my luck, I'd break off the bolt trying to turn it.

That almost sounds like you approve of my plan of filling the block with diesel, it's a penetrant right. :D

    Stuck Block (SBC 350 '83)

Ah OK. I have to fit a new carb, maybe take off the intake too, figure out a temp fuel system before I start it, start it. I just want to turn it over first before doing all that.

    Stuck Block (SBC 350 '83)

Let me preface this by saying, I'm not looking to build a bogger, rock crawler, or any kind of performance machine, I just want to get this old sucker running again, for fun, and maybe occasional trips to the lumber store. This is a carbureted '83 350 with a Q-Jet, that mice nested in, and...

What have you done to your square lately??

Cleaned all the turds, seat stuffing and other mouse nesting out the interior. Cleaned the possum nesting, made mainly of corn shucks (thanks Midwest) out the engine bay.
