    the later engines has a integral head that is prone to overheating and warpage.them engines are very torquey,however don't like a lot of rpms.makes a good economical truck engine. people usually swap that later head for the earlier head.

    wonder if you should be worrying about mileage until your engine gets broke in.nice new engines are usually tight until everything wears in together.after breaking it in,mileage usually go up significantly.

    if you have a isolated road,take the truck down the road in reverse at about thirty miles a hour and apply the brakes,do this several times and see if it make the problem worse or better.sometimes helps by adjusting the tension on the rear brakes.might isolate the problem too.

    when i did this one my truck,i drill two little hole on either side of the nut(one one each side) at a angle. then i spot welded basically where the flanges for the nuts was and recaptured the nut in place.then i was able to take the body mount bolt out with a impact.worked fine to put it back...

    Oil leak

    sometimes oil filters will leak if you left the old rubber gasket on and put the new gasket on top of it.filter will tighten up,but leaks between the gaskets. have seen this happen before.threw this out as a possibility.

    since the backfire is on the passenger side only,did you get the valvetrain adjust down right,maybe little to tight ,causing backfire through the valves take only one or two being tight.
