are the spark plug wires on right and in the correct order? sounds like its misfiring, and whats shooting up out of the carb? did you check the timing yet? time in, then adjust the carb ... did you redo a compression test after your uncle adjusted the valves?
i had a roller 305 in my 77 3/4 ton long bed ... motor was from a camaro, i put a cam, eddy intake and headers into 2.25 pipes with flows... that thing hauled ass!!! now if you have the money for a crate 350, go that route for sure, cant beat the warranty... and you can beat on the motor all...

thanks! found it, got it swapped, also replaced the switch under the dash, works perfect now... i think if id of done the switch under the dash first, i wouldnt have needed a new key cylinder lol ... oh well, its all new now
problem resolved: i replaced the ignition switch under the dash, it fixed the binding issue and also the engine cutting off issue. looks like im doing a brake master next.
im no timing pro, but i would def advance it some more, i dont think 4 degrees is enough. did you hook up a vacuum gauge and see where youre at while you move the dizzy? my truck never ran off what was under the hood, i tuned it how it liked to be tuned... but for smog, i guess youve gotta get...
Thanks a lot! That was it! I replaced the switch, fires right up and doesn't turn off unless I turn the key off. All the binding up has also been resolved ,4 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 screws and it was out. Took about 15 minutes ... I'm stoked! Took my kids for a ride. They loved it! Too bad I can't say...

should i replace the steel rod too? would that be whats binding up when i try to turn the key off?

so heres my problem. when i bought the truck, the PO said the truck would just shut off on its own, would restart and later turn off again down the road. so i figured out if i held the ignition forward like i was going to start the truck and hold it there it would stay running just fine.
So...
how can i run a switch to power my ignition? i swapped out the old key switch for a new one and it still kills the motor if i dont hold forward pressure on the key after it fires up... pulling hair out over here lol
