getting your square ready for off roading on a budget!

The ideal shackle angle is closer to 30 degrees on a leaf sprung suspension. That will give you equal rachel in both directions with the shackle before it a) inverts, or b) the spring runs into the shackle.

    Independent F&R Suspension

You're going to give up strength in a big way. If someone with pockets a deep as Walker Evans can't make it last, your chances are pretty slim. Put it on tons, linked front and rear, shock it accordingly, and you'll be set.

asstance with finding wheel spacers for 77 C10

I'm running 1.5" bolt on spacers in the rear of my 94 K1500, and have been for 4+ years. Mine are lug centric, and aluminum. Bought them off of ebay for around $70. Never once had a problem out of them.

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally rolled the cab off of the 80, pulled the 350/465/205 off of the frame, cut the cobbled up rear bumper/hitch off and did some more misc clean up of the frame.

    Oldsmobile Engine Conversion

I'm in the same boat, all of the drivetrain to put my 80/93 project together, just no motivation or cash flow to get it rolling. Maybe this weekend I'll finish stripping the cab and drivetrain off of it.

    Very Respectable Squares IMO

Regardless of how crazy and "wrong"it may look, it may be something completely interesting to see how it works.

    Are headers worth it?

I have been having problems, I think due to cheap header bolts, but I use Fel Pro MS9275b manifold gaskets, cut the bolt holes so you can start the bolts into th e head and header with no gasket, then drop the gaskets on from the top. I always use aluminum collector gaskets on then too. Very...

    new motor

You can't clock a driver drop case enough to make it passenger drop... Fill and drain plugs would make getting the proper fluid level an issue... Then there is that whole vent in the top of the case thing.... A hole in the bottom of the case well make retaining any fluid hard, much less the...

    new motor

Not saying it is not physically possible, just that doing so will render your trans useless, as it will not shift without a vss signal.

    Very Respectable Squares IMO

With the steering shaft extending from the bottom of the column to a rack mounted on a suspended axle, you would lose any added "accuracy" over a traditional crossover setup. Adding a panhard bar, of the proper length and angle would improve any "inaccuracy"issues.

    Very Respectable Squares IMO

From seeing the truck launch, I understand the lack of need for power assist, curious as to what the strong shaft going to that rack looks like... Since it not only has to bend with the suspension movement, but telescope as well. Could have just done crossover to the passenger side knuckle...

    Very Respectable Squares IMO

Confused as to the advantage of a rack and pinion over traditional crossover, especially being non-power assist

You can't swap to a cable driven output and eliminate the vss. The 4l80e requires a vss signal to control shifts.

Rebuilding 700r4, any special tools or tips?

Got one in the works involving a square and parts from several gmt400s thrown in a pot and mixed all up.... Throwing in some 70s f250 just for good measure. But yes, i suppose I might could talk her into allowing me to post a build thread once this gets off the ground. Possibly a 4wd to 2wd...
