My FREE 350 Motor Survived Thankfully !!!

Glad that engine made it through... A bit sad to see that the squares had to go across the scales though.

    Duel Tank Switch

Hmmm, you learn something new every day... I knew the ones for the older ones were the single wire solenoid type, didn't know they had switched temporarily in the 80's to a motorized version. Thanks chengny!

    Duel Tank Switch

Momentary switches won't work for a dual tank system... The auxiliary side of the tank selection solenoid needs a constant voltage against it to keep it switched. Otherwise, it'll flip right back to the primary side.

    Oil pressure fluctuating

They did... My '73 still has the mechanical in it... Copper tube runs through the firewall to the gauge.

    starter question

Nothing off the top of my head... If nothing else you could take both starters to the parts house and see if they can find something that will work. Just tell 'em you need a starter with the nose shaped like the first one and the bolt pattern from the other.

Fresh big block with low oil pressure at idle.

Okay, I was thinking of things the way they are on my Mark IV... The sending unit is right above the oil filter boss and is pretty much the fist thing the oil hits before going through the block. Where exactly is the sending unit on the later versions? Pic?

    About to stab this motor

Very nice... Makes me want to get my truck back together so I can start 'er up again... :waytogo:

Fresh big block with low oil pressure at idle.

Just read your last paragraph too... When the oil warms up it becomes thinner... At a cold idle my gauge reads pretty high, but after she warms up the gauge reads closer to 30psi... It's normal and I'm guessing that the gauge on your truck is just far enough out of wack that it reads low...

Fresh big block with low oil pressure at idle.

If you were measuring oil pressure from the front top side of the engine then the spigot analogy would work, but since the gauge is set up right close to the pump you're actually measuring the oil pressure as it leaves the pump, not throughout the system. Thinking through it I would presume a...

Dang truck.. one thing leads to another..

It took a bit of hunting, but when I was installing the correct parts for my dual tank system, I found that valve on ebay. Don't think I found it anywhere else though...

Fresh big block with low oil pressure at idle.

No such thing unless you blew it apart... Even then it may or may not have an effect on oil pressure, but you'd definitely tell that the engine wasn't running right. I'd verify the gauge first before diving into the engine...

    TH400 Kick down Switch Problem

Yup, that's correct... The switch only makes contact at the very end of the throw of the pedal, not necessarily of the switch, hence the adjustment. :waytogo: Thanks btw to PawPaw for making the other thread a sticky! :)

    Upper door hinge removal...help

I looked at my '73 last night and the grommet for the courtesy light switch wires is the same to get to that bolt. I'm guessing they figured why drill two holes when they could use one. Later on they got dumb and drilled another hole.

    Pushrod length madness

I know for my Gen IV I had to rob my 427 that had aftermarket guide plates so I could fit the larger diameter pushrods on the 454. Game plan is to buy another set or modify my existing guide plates when and if I ever get around to putting the 427 back together.

    Opinions please

I'd say stick with the Q-Jet as well... Love 'em, but then again I grew up on them too. lol I found this book to be invaluable for understanding, rebuilding, and modifying them: http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Modify-Rochester-Quadrajet-Carburetors/dp/1932494189

What have you done to your square lately??

been working on getting the loose rust off the frame so that I can go in and coat as much of it as I can in por15... Also bought some new shocks for after I get the frame coated. :)

    not impressed so far.....

Welcome aboard! I guess I should start keeping my eyes peeled for badges when I get to the yard. Them's one of those things that fall off the radar until you need 'em and can't find acceptable replacements.

    Windshield installation?

I haven't done it yet, but I've seen and heard the cord method... I figured I should be able to get it alright with the help of a friend. I'm more worried about getting the lock strip in than the seal popped in the truck. Figured I'd go at it slow and easy... Hopefully it's cooperative... :)

    Windshield installation?

$100 for the glass doesn't sound bad... I'm planning on doing the installation myself, so that'll nix the cost on installation.
