86 1/2 ton gears needed for 33” with new 383

Ya doesn’t make sense and I could be wrong but lotsa crazy stuff in the 70s/80s in the name of emissions and fuel economy. Thats just what I gleaned from the vehicle specs archives.

Need to replace rubber fuel lines on top of both tanks….

You’ll get opinions on both ways. I’ve done it both ways and barring some really weird condition, I’d take the raise or remove bed option in most scenarios. This is one of those, look ahead at everything you want to accomplish before starting and then dive in and do it once, decision moments...

What have you done to your square lately??

There’s a reason I NEVER took on a resto project ever, until the blue truck. It would have been in pieces for years! Couple scuff n squirts and mostly whiskey dent repairs is all I did. Blue truck was a Covid project that failed to meet the timeline…lol. First, we figgered the whole...

    Chevy for GMC Hubcaps

Edit, that was rude. Sorry. Took me a while to find 8 lug 80s GMC hubcaps. Gotta keep yer eyes peeled on the Craigslist.

    Replacement doors?

^This. And burbs make such great parts rigs. They’re as or more plentiful than pickups these days and generally in better shape on average and so much less expensive. Dude up here would buy cherry 2wd burbs to part out. mostly C20s as hardly no one wants them. I bet he had 6 or 9 burbs and 1...

1987 LS swap , dual tank, primary left side in tank fuel pump & Right side tank convert to a transfer tank setup to fill left tank anyone done this?

That just sounds like a cobbled up nightmare with the risk of fuel spill… If you actually have an 87 (your sig says 86) and the wiring, valve and switches work, then you’re just 1 fuel pump/sender away from having a properly operating dual tank truck. Don’t booby trap it for the next driver or...

86 1/2 ton gears needed for 33” with new 383

Not according to the GM Heritage vehicle info kits. 5.7 auto truck was OD trans only. And only 2.73 or 3.08 gears. Also curiously the only 5.7 power team was with CA emissions. Didn’t shown any 5.7 federal emissions trucks. Now the 4.3, 5.0 and 6.2 had far more options for gearing and some...

Good ole Front range weather! Painting outside in the end of December is crazy! Awesome though I know you were jamming trying to get it done before winter.

    Plastic thread repair

That would be a huge tap or die to have. And buying one would cost 3x as much as a new survival shovel. I was going to suggest pinning it. Thread it in, drill a hole thru the handle and the plug.

    LE9 305 w ESC Performance upgrades '86 k5 Blazer

^What he said. General consensus is don’t fck with a functioning ESC motor. Exhaust, fine. New valve guides, fine. Tune carb, fine. If everything else is working, leave it be. Look for posts by @SirRobyn0 He has a fully functional 305 daily driver and goes into great detail about the 305 ESC...

    Replacement doors?

Good point but he’s in Phx, so take about another 50 years to rust thru. I’d still look for OE takeoff doors though. Regardless of color.

    Replacement doors?

Are you sure you wanna redo the interior before paint? Seems backwards sine you have to remove what you install on the doors again. Or maybe not planning to paint. Just thinking about eliminating double work.

    Hello from western PA

Crazy! And it’s still kinda in one piece! That’s cool. Original pic looks like you started driving it like The Fall Guy pretty early on! How big a jump did it take to do that to a new truck?

86 1/2 ton gears needed for 33” with new 383

^Good point. And agree. Underpowered OE engine and OD trans, has no business having gears that start with a 2 or even low 3s. Also suggest OP run some rpm/gear calculator options to get a visual of what rpm’s will be in upper gears at certain speeds. For reference.

Trying to identify this color of blue

Regardless of the discussion, if OP wants it to look like an 80s Navy Blue truck, the paint codes have been provided. Trying to match to a paint chip catalog or chart is of little use. This is not a difficult search.

    67 Mile V10

Yup money laundering or something. Too much weirdness and way too far above what it would sell for even at inflated auction values like Mecum etc. Think about it. Plus these trucks are NOT that cool! Of course anything is possible but the history surrounding the prev owners combined with the...

Oil pan off, anything I should do while I’m under there?

Not to my knowledge. But quality ones are well under $100. And if you have Advanced Auto parts nearby may get one for like $15. That said, knock on wood I’ve never lost an oil pump in a lot of old high mileage small blocks. They get gradually lower over time. If yours is running 50-60psi cold...

If it’s really old or high mileage maybe consider slapping a new oil pump in it.

Guess I’d verify what’s in it first lol. Totally possible it had those originally though. Like most of these type of questions, it up to you to decide what you want out of the truck. Mud bogger vs pounding it 85mph down the highway frequently beget different gears. Both fir out of the gate and...

It could easily be either of the factory colors I mentioned. Assuredly darker than the color @Rustisbest posted. Here’s better pics of the color.
