    Paint Source for 1983 K20

^The kicker is, do you want to match something faded or just get the matching color of what it should be. IMO it’s a losing battle to try to match faded old paint. And if you ever repaint the whole truck you’d want to shoot the roof again anyways. Good news is youd use much less base cost the...

This is 35s 9” wide 3.5 bs. Literally in between your 2 choices you mentioned. 5” of lift and it’s barely daily driveable without rubbing.

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Depending how much you’re doing yourself, your penchance for little time consuming mini projects and your final goals, there is ALOT of simple stuff that takes time but not much money. Like your door panels. Drivers one is toast obviously, but the other 3 look better. Rather than buy 4 new...

    Sagging doors: where to start?

All great information. Agree with @bucket diagnosis 100%. Short answer, looking at what you got. Yes the door has been hanging on the striker for a while. Like every single truck almost. If the pins aren’t worn out or even if they have a little slop, looks like you can get the doors up off the...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

^ Pretty darn decent interior for a $3k running driving lifted 4x4 burb! About 90% original and 60% saveable. PS they make the little covers for the door pull straps with the filigree work on them to match the door trim….unbelievably.

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

That’s a great hookup for sure. Something else to keepin mind, working under the assumption of a budget that is not limitless. A great deal of work in autobody is parts removal/replacement and very basic semi-skilled prep. The labor to paint it is literally the cheapest part of the operation...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Congrats on finding one. I know you don’t have to do a manual trans now, but fwiw, swapping the trans, all in, is far less expensive than paint and body work on that truck. May want to sit down before you read the estimate for that, presuming you’re not diy. And be prepared first for what you...

I’d say its less that UPS and FedEx suck and more that you just now aren’t getting the same special consideration from the carriers or the USPS you somehow managed to get for 17 years. It’s pretty common that large items can’t get shipped to post offices. And post offices don’t receive...

What new tools have you got lately?

Got a couple adapters for old 18v dewalt NiMh tools to new Milwaukee batteries. One of the better inventions since beer in a can! Have an older Dwalt 1/2” drill and little impact driver. And 4 old batteries that last about 2min each. Was going to just toss them but bought the adapters...

No, but a shortbed pickup would, wheelbase wise. Blazer is shorter.

That’s a little more offset than stock. I think stock wheels are about 0 offset. Feel like they’d still fit just fine though. Worst case you could get some OE 16” steelies cheap and clean them up and paint if needed. They are not too hard to find for cheap.

    489ci tow build...

To build a big, big block for towing, the only goal has to be smiles per gallon. Must be low miles towing or you could spend the whole build budget just on extra gas in a short time. Honestly, I’d want to just 12v or 24v it if I was packing on the miles at all, but in your case that would...

    Paint Source for 1983 K20

I’ll add more reasons what you said makes sense. 1. Paint lasts basically forever. I have 20-30 year old base coat and clear that I’ve used recently. 2. It will never cost less than it does today. Albeit hopefully not ridiculously more like the last few years.

6 Lug to 5 Lug Conversion

Ya know, back in the day I thought it was great when rear axles finally got switched to disk brakes. Now 30 years later with an old CJ5 4 wheel drums and 2 squarebodys, I’ve realized that drum brakes are really good. And a lot of my previous dislike of drums was largely due to being in the rust...

    Paint Source for 1983 K20

Any paint and body supply can match it. But I’ll throw out another plug for Tamco paint. Still a great value. That said, @Stormhawk, figure out what your actual goal is. If you’re repainting just a cooked roof, then I’d surmise the rest of the trucks paint is not pristine. You could spend a...

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

Yeah, I’m allergic to rust now, so it would be a hard pass for me. And it’s not just rockers from that pic. Cab corners too and the door bottoms are being up a close 3rd place. If a guy was super handy and had the time space and tools, yeah that’s around $1000 in parts paint materials and a lot...

Nice try but that’s not all you wanted to know. You compelled yourself to derail your own thread early on by over explaining how your career as a defunct auto body guy, now car insurance salesman…truck garbage truck, whatever, makes you a risk analyst and that apparently this risk of no wheel...

My response was almost wholly related to your risk analysis of your antique automobile build being operated on public roads and the possibility of puncturing the gas tank(s). Which I’d presumed you gleaned, or were already aware of. I mean just a minor t bone accident to your bed side or cab and...

That said, how could you even consider putting yourself or your family at “risk” of being exposed to a traffic collision in such an antiquated vehicle with such rudimentary or even non existent safety features that are present and mandated in new or newer vehicles? By that logic you’d be...
