    Monza's many other projects

Thanks for the pic...tonight will get my lazy ass under there and clean off the code pad since I need to get the one off the block too, lol.

    Monza's many other projects

Need to get the wheels off the front to inspect the spindles, they don't look like a 1 ton to me, but it makes no sense that they would have sold a truck that needed 2 different spares.

    Monza's many other projects

Here is why I think it's a dually axle...notice the amount of space from the spring pack to the back of the drum and notice how far out on the axle the non-dually rim sits? Without the bed, duals fit easy. That GMC chinook looks like the same rim set up as mine would have been, duals in the rear...

    Monza's many other projects

The engine is looks like a 283, not totally sure yet. I can fit a 7/16" drill bit into the gap on the web above timing cover on passenger side of block, can't remember exactly but I thought the wide gap was 283, narrow gap was 327 (unless nova, they were their own critters). Since it has a small...

    Monza's many other projects

More research last night brought me this much...it is a 1963 Chevy for sure, originally was Glenwood Green with the black grill and tan interior. It seems to be a 1 ton, rear axle is a dually axle and after looking at the front, not sure it is possible to put a dually offset rim on the...

Thoughts on running 10 year old tires?

Just be thankful that they are 33's and not 37's or larger, lol. I've had decent luck with Kenati mud hawgs for a decent affordable mud tire if budget is an issue.

Thoughts on running 10 year old tires?

If you have a locker or limited slip, I would have all 5 the same so if you ever need the spare and drive on pavement, you don't do damage. I used to have a tire close to diameter and if had a flat, take good one off front and swap to the back, then put spare on the front and not use 4 wheel drive.

    Monza's many other projects

Figured I have so much stuff in the fire, just as well do a thread for them too, lol. So, going to start this one out with my most recent tow home from yesterday. I had thought I knew everything about this truck since it hadn't changed since I first remember it when I was 5, but after much...

    Very true says my '80 K30 frame, 89 c30 springs, 89 c30 cab, 86 burb nose, 80 k30 dash, 85 doors, 89 c30 harness, 91 column truck, lol.

    Removing Trans and T-Case

Well, if you don't have a trans jack, the easiest in that case is to drop the transfer off the trans first (the bolts on the transfer case side of the adapter so the transmission is still supported by the crossmember), then take motor and trans right out at the same time if you have enough pick...

    Removing Trans and T-Case

I just pull the motor and have a jack under the trans to start with. Once motor is out, I cut a 2x4 stud to lay across the frame and support the front of the trans by that so I can take my jack back.

Big Block Cooling w/Electric Fans: DON'T DO IT

I bought a whole GMC diesel burb core support with big rad and all the coolers and had the trans cooler with the electric fan, nice 86 grill and headlight buckets for $100 off craigslist for my K30 soon as I decided to upsize to 454. Only thing I didn't have was the shroud, but got that off my...

Lets give the 6.2 diesel some love

Nice...but one thing I would suggest doing is getting rid of that intake filter and putting like an AFe Box there plummed to outside air. Hot underhood air isn't the greatest. Nice limited restriction necks though...what did they run you?

400 SBC heads weird casting number

At a 14.4 1/4 mile time, '20 camry does okay I suppose compared to a stock square. Spice a square right and that's no problem even for a 4x4.

Lets give the 6.2 diesel some love

My ol' 6.2 ran good for the most part till pump and injectors wore out from low sulfur diesel. Was pretty gutless though, even with 4.10's and TH400 in my burb, with just 35's on it, most passes were about 45 mph. The killer on those was having the CR at 21.5:1 and being non-turbo, head design...

Does anyone have a gas powered air compressor?

Pretty easy to do, just need to know the rated RPM of compressor pump and RPM that engine will run best at. Formula is revolutions per minute, RD1, of the drive shaft times the diameter, DD1, of the drive pulley equals the revolutions per minute, Rd1, of the driven shaft times the Diameter, Dd1...

    Truck Cab Differences

Not much in the dash sheet metal, working on moding '89 c30 cab to my '80 k30. So far, 4 speed C30 cab high jump is not removable, just cutting that section of the K30 floor out and welding mount section in C30 cab. My 80 dash pad a/c fits right in without mods. Later cabs have the headlight...

Hey Travis, might try Ace hardware if you have one near. I hear they still sell individual craftsman sockets.

    1988 v30 454 dump body lift advice

Another thing to think of is your plow if you still plan on using it. Will need to lower it the same that you lift the truck. Sometimes you can get away with moving mount to the bottom hole on front brackets (if it's that style), but the plow angle is then different to road surface and tends to...

400 SBC heads weird casting number

Sacrilege! I love my 400's...granted a 509 2 bolt casting no greater than .030 over, lol.

Nice! I have a bunch of ponderosa pine that was beetle killed that I need to split up, that's way better price than what I was looking at.

Learning as I go, but I'm stumped. Timing or an ignition issue?

Another thing to think of that I've done before with a bad backfire is the crank timing sprocket keyway. On a stock cast crank with genuine 1406 backfire, the edge of the keyway shattered and allowed sprocket to spin about 40°. Was stuck on the side of the road 800+ miles from home and limited...
