90 burb, New motor, water pump, overheating only when t stat is installed

Drill your T Stat holes out to 1/8th inch. What year is the replacement engine block? What year waterpump are you running. Check back I'll put up posts when I find them of the bypass. Is tge heater core hooked up and working? Got you some pics. That 1 hole allows water to circulate until the...

What new tools have you got lately?

I think we should change the name of this thread to. Did Mr Clean get a new tool today!

Starter won't dis-engage when key is turned off.

No I just didn't understand,I've always thought it was ohms law been stating it this way for 20 years,no on has ever said anything. Now I know, thanks. My money is still on voltage/amperage issue.

Lost Two Gen 3 LS Engines in my 1986 C10 2WD

This the first I've read of definite impact that went away, okay my bet is you did hydroloc it and bent rods the impact especially that went away was the piston skirts hitting the rods

    Motor mount questions

Did you ever fix your brake problem? Set your big block in,just like the small block came out, unless you are getting big block mounts and perches. But a big block will sit in just fine mounted up just like it was a small block.

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

As for alignments and in the green. If I'm aligning your car at a big box store, with a blanket price for the alignment, no matter how much work is involved,in the green is all you are going to get from me. If I'm at a mom and pop shop where I get paid for my actual time involved you are going to...

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

It's like any other business, there are good techs, bad techs, and great techs( me for example) the bad ones make us all look bad. And we take so much abuse and are the scapegoat when things don't go as the car owner thinks they should. And then all their friends want to arm chair quarterback it...

Starter won't dis-engage when key is turned off.

I still see a possible voltage problem, that's causing the same problem with a second starter. Now if you look back in vehicle history, look at the gauge of the wiring in 6 volt cars,it was huge to carry the amperage of a 6 volt load, they switched to 12 volt and the gauge dropped substantially...

What would you pay for this truck?

The cuts are leading edge of the bed,no visible seam to worry about. The other cut is directly ahead of the taillights and a seam will have to be dealt with. Maybe someone can photo shop what a short wheel base but full length behind the wheel would look like. Might be a cool third option.

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

Yep just hook it and pull. If you can't watch them, then let them know you aren't concerned with measurements being green, you are fighting a problem and need to know what the real measured caster is,good or bad that way you know if you need to add wedge and how much. Do not put them in a cover...

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

You need to go back and talk to them. If casters wrong you are chasing your tail. Ask them to put it back on the rack, you watch them, get a printout. If they touch the alignment heads or raise or lower the bumper after they do the caster sweep.( left right turn on setup ) they are cheating to...

High oil pressure after replacing pump

My concerns with running excessive oil pressure would be holding the bypass valve open in the oil filter so you are no longer filtering the oil going to your bearings. I also would wonder about, distributor and cam gear wear and windage. I'd try running a thinner oil. I'd also see what pump and...

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

Yes hub and rotor still attached, but steering links disconnected to isolate so the only resistance you get is in the steering knuckle you are checking. Look at step 5 for how to adjust. Sorry so late to reply, been a busy day. Still want to see before and after on alignment sheet.

    Computerized carb

Okay so we know the carbureator functions,if we can get fuel in it. I will try to find pics to verify you put fuel where I said. If that checks out, then remove the fuel line from the carbureator, put open line in an empty bottle and have someone crank the engine. Does fuel pump into the bottle...

Ahhh! Just read you replaced the steering box,if it's too tight it will cause a problem. Anyway here's procedure for checking the ball joints.

Starter won't dis-engage when key is turned off.

Check battery condition, cables and battery grounds. 1 to engine 1 to body 1 to frame. Sounds like voltage/amperage problem battery, cables, yes they will cause the starter to stay stay engaged or not engage. What happens is when you decrease voltage you increase amperage,it's ohms law. The...

Do I restore my AC or?

The refrigerant oil is hygroscopic,it absorbs water the water, oil, refrigerant mix, creates an acid I forget which acid I learned this stuff too long ago. The acid will destroy your compressor and eat up the evaporator and condenser, maybe not today, but eventually. Air and water in the system...

    Power brake booster recommendations?

For your info, if you switch to power brakes you will need to relocate the position of the brake pushrod. If your pedal does not have provisions you will need to modify or change the pedal. The geometry is wrong and even though you think it looks like it will work,it won't. There will not be...

Are sure neither of these engines are DOD? I'm seeing or imagining I'm seeing a pattern in compression between DOD cylinders.

Do I restore my AC or?

If charging yourself, you'll want real gauges so you can see high side and low side, and a vaccum pump. You can make a vacuum pump from an old refrigerator compressor. As already stated switching to r134 is easy and cheap, replace your hoses, orings, and oil. As for not selling freon to end...

    What is this?

Follow the brake lines underneath the fanshroud to the brake combination valve. See it plugs into that.
