    Early 4.3 upgrade?

Seriously with all the people doing LS swaps you should be able to find a usable as is SBC cheaper than you can buy a stock rebuild kit, more power, easiest swap ever and if mpg is your concern use a 305. My 2 cents

    heater fan - always on?

I wouldn't feel comfortable shutting off water flow through the heater core,it acts as a bypass and does not bypass the same on all vehicles or even all SBC some vehicles blocking it creates hot spots, and other issues. As @75gmck25 said he used, many later model SBC vehicles used a bypass...

    74 C10 rear end interchange

I didn't answer because I do not know enough about interchange on the rearends,to tell someone what is a straight swap. I don't believe the above information is complete enough, but do not know for sure. I do know for sure some squares were 10 bolt some were 12 bolt and some were 14 bolt,so even...

What new tools have you got lately?

One of the shops I used to work at,the service writer was sold on the Phoenix injector reverse bleeder. He had the shop buy one for shop use,we were hard heads I don't think anyone ever used it. Stupid because for free I could have found out if it was a worth while system, all the other knuckle...

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

Go back and read carefully what I said about the dipstick, vacuum gauge etc. I'm trying to determine if you have a vacuum leak under the manifold a vacuum gauge on the dipstick tube with all other openings plugged will show this.

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

Set your shop vac hoses to blow, put an air cleaner with a snorkel on the carbureator, put rags in the exhaust pipes, pot your shop vac hose on the snorkel and tape it up,turn on the shop vac and start spraying everything with soapy water look for bubbles.Alternately you can blow in the exhaust...

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

Check vacuum and compression,as well check for vacuum leaks, use carb cleaner around the manifold base. Hook a vacuum gauge to the dipstick tube, block the pvc valve and tape over all valve cover openings/vents,see if you are pulling a vacuum under the manifold.

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

GM to stay price competitive offers 3 tiers of parts now, blue which is supposed to be original quality, gold which is ,meh user grade, and their bottom tier silver which is the same off shore junk parts everyone else is using. Original quality is supposed to be good for 100,000...

    Wiring Harness? Choosing one?

Everybody keeps pointing to painless,I haven't used them, but I do know from other people's posts they back dated the headlight circuit about 30 years. They went with a fused headlight circuit, not a problem 99 percent of the time. I don't want to be the 1 guy who losses headlights at 75 mph due...

monojet i6 drinking gallons at idle

How were we supposed to know the distributor was correct until post 18,you literally said on your previous post you put on a distributor that looks just the one on your 454,not I put on a distributor from a 198? I6. What year is your motor? What year is your distributor? And the argument that the...

1985 305 keeps dying after a few seconds

A vacuum leak will not allow a float bowl to overfill. The only things that will cause the float bowl to overfill( waterfall amounts of fuel pouring out as per your description) are needle and seat, fuel pressure,or float.

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

I don't buy distributors I use genuine GM,AC Delco gold,or NAPA premium modules. I reuse/ rebuild, find new old stock, as much as possible, new parts as a general rule in my opinion, are not as good as the parts the cars were made with new.And a lot of new parts not suitable to use at all. Also as...

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

I only recommend genuine gm,delco gold or NAPA premium. To the best of my knowledge those are the only modules that hold true to the original design and vary dwell or vary dwell in the original fashion based on engine rpm. By using cheaper components they can make more profit, and or offer a...

    CA Smog exemption

The reason for the collector insurance is so people don't use this as loophole to drive daily driven vehicles without required smog equipment. If all the cars with smog exemption are limited to milage it's not as big a deal as just saying okay your car is old pollute all you want everyday as many...

Stock fuel pump has a vent line. Edelbrock don’t.

The return on those and the 33041,same filter different size in and out 3/8 vs. 5/16th, they have a restrictor in the return line so too much doesn't return. We used to make a bypass at the shop using a simple tee fitting, straight leg through and through to the carb. Side leg we would put a...

57 bel air turn signal inop

1985 305 keeps dying after a few seconds

If it's pouring fuel out, it is flooding, the only things that can make fuel pour out of the carbureator is,needle and seat, float,or excess fuel pressure. If tapping on the carburetor didn't make the flooding stop it's time to pull the top off the carb. Unless it has recently had the fuel pump...

Replacing rear axle on 83 k5

Okay it's the bolt in the diff that holds the cross pin, they always break if you don't heat them with propane before trying to remove them. They are an easy cheap fix,so common some one makes a kit with the proper drill bit, drill guide new bolt etc. I'll see if I can find it for you. You do know...
