    It's a circulation issue,not fan clutch,not head gaskets etc. Otherwise the 2 holes in the thermostat wouldn't have stopped the overheating. I asked about the heater core,which you answered,because TBI may need coolant through the manifold,through the heater core and then return as a bypass...

    If you can't get it to idle you can't set timing anyway, so put it where ever it runs best for now. If the rpms are too high the weights will already be partially out so the numbers really will mean nothing.

    This is why on a qjet you do all your jetting and tuning on the primary first,most of your driving is on the primaries. Don't change secondary hangers,rods or spring windup until you have the primaries dialed in.

    Have you checked fuel delivery,if it will take throttle with choke closed,you either have not enough fuel,or too much air. See how much fuel you get putting the fuel line in a pop bottle and cranking the engine,see how much you get in 30 seconds. Could still be a big vacuum leak.

    You still need to verify compression and vacuum if one or the other is off,everything else is a waste of time.

    Bypass the valve run hoses to one tank or the other. Is the problem gone? Run hoses to the other tank. Is the problem still gone? Replace the valve. Bypassing valve doesn't fix the problem,then the valve is not the problem.when I say run lines to the other tank I actually mean just jumper around...

    Just sticking a breaker in place of the fuse in this instance is not a fix,also a breaker in place of a fuse takes a little math due to the different rate of disconnect at least sometimes,maybe not always but say a 20 amp breaker may not disconnect quick enough to protect the wiring the same way...
