Bench and Bucket Seat Track Identification

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead again. I have been going through the seat threads and haven't really found an answer to what I am wanting to do. I have a split bench seat out of a 92 GMT 400 extended cab pickup. I would like to put it in my 90 suburban in place of the...

    383 Stroker Suburban MPG

2WD or 4x4? BBC all the way!

    383 Stroker Suburban MPG

Our bone stock (for now) 1990 TBI 350 4x4 suburban is probably lucky if it breaks 13 mpg combined mileage. I wouldn't expect much better than that with a 383. That is why I suggested a BBC earlier because it probably wouldn't be all that much worse on gas and the power potential is so much...

    1990 454 SS Pickup

A remote would be a great feature so you don't have to lean way over all the time to reach the radio.

    1990 454 SS Pickup

Is the Pioneer radio in the parts burb better than the JVC you have in the pickup? I liked the Pioneers I had back in the 90's.

    Transmission Options

The 300 was in a 95 F150 4x4 with a 5 speed and the 302 was in a 93 F150 with the A4OD. Both had 3.55 gears and 31X10.50 15's. The 300 got better mileage and had more power than the 302. Granted, the 302 would rev to the moon and had dual exhaust with glass packs, so it sounded like it was...

    Transmission Options

I have had both 300's and 302's in pickups. I'm not a big Ford guy, but the 300 I6 was a heck of a good engine. IMHO the 302 was the worst pickup engine I have ever been around. No bottom end power at all and terrible gas mileage. Alway had to have your foot in it. The 351 W was pretty...

    Manual to auto swap.

Definitely should re-gear it, especially if you are doing any towing. I don't think the np205 was ever offered with a 700R4. Ideally, looking for a 4L80E would be the best towing friendly OD transmission.

    383 Stroker or 6.0 LS??

The longer stroke of a 383 probably would make more bottom end torque if you get the right cam and flat top pistons so you have decent compression. I would bet that a 454 bbc with the gear ratio you have mated to a 4L80E would be comparable economy to a built 383 and would tow better cross...

    Transmission Options

Torque is the name of the game for pickups. That turbo'd 250 torque curve is flat, flat, flat. That would be an awesome setup. Now I want to find a 250..... :boxing:

What color is this Green? I need some help

That is an awesome color. I also like the saddle interior upgrades that you did. Very nice contrast to the green.

    Transmission Options

I have one of those 3 speed overdrive transmissions that came out of a '67 C10. It has a solenoid on it that activates the OD. Thought about swapping it into my '68 C10 in place of the SM465 that is currently in it, but haven't found a floor shifter that would work with it. I also vote for...

How hard is it to swap my 3.08 gears to 3.73 gears?

I couldn't agree more....about the only gearing worse for a 700r4 than 3.08's would be 2.76's. Auto manufacturers did some dumb stuff back in the 80's (especially early 80s) trying to get the best number on the fuel economy window sticker possible. Our local Chevy dealer back then...

How hard is it to swap my 3.08 gears to 3.73 gears?

You are correct. I'd do the gear change which will be worth it for the mean time and then save up for a good 350 swap to complete the deal.

How hard is it to swap my 3.08 gears to 3.73 gears?

I like your thinking @Rusty Nail. Driveability is always better when you are operating in the peak torque range. Small blocks like to spin, so I say spin them!

Has anyone done the $50 Rustoleum Paint Job on their Square???

Yeah, the whole topcoat is gone on the hood and top of the cab.

Has anyone done the $50 Rustoleum Paint Job on their Square???

On a side note, the '68 C50 in the background was repainted by a local body shop in the mid 80's and that paint hasn't held up nearly as well.

Has anyone done the $50 Rustoleum Paint Job on their Square???

This is my dad's '57 Willys. He sprayed it with Rustoleum in 1980 that he bought at the local hardware store. Never sat inside until the last 5 years. The paint is faded some, but considering it is 40 years old, I'd say that it held up very well.

Pick the fav car you owned but follow instructions:

    '68 Chevy C10 327 4speed '86 Monte Carlo 305 V8 2004R '90 Chevy C1500 Silverado 4.3 V6 5 speed '89 GMC K1500 350 auto overdrive It's hard to pick between the '68 and the '90, but all around I liked the '90 Chevy pickup the best. Was a really nice blue and sliver two-tone. Most comfortable...

    Goodyear Wrangler Radials

Whatever you get, make sure you get LT tires and not P metric. I can't speak for this particular tread pattern, but I have had some Goodyear Duratracs and they have been very good. They will be a lot more expensive than the ones you posted above. They do have a classic look to them also. I...

    Goodyear Wrangler Radials

I'm assuming you would be getting 15" tires, so make sure to get LT load range C tires if you are driving a lot of gravel. They will hold up better (less flats) than P metric standard load tires.

    86 C20 SM465 to NV4500 swap

2700-2800 rpms isn't pushing it hard at all for a small block. That's right in it's sweet spot. My '68 C10 with a 327, 3.73's, SM465, and 235 75 15's runs over 3K at 65-70. Been driving it like that for 25 years. Just saying that you have a truck and the gearing set up you have is about...

    1981 C10 2" Lift Question

Do you know what gear ratio that pickup has? My grandpa had one that looked just like this, only blue. It had 3.08 gears and a 305 V8 with 225 75R15 tires. It was a dog with that combo and those tires were little. If you are considering 33" tires, you probably will want at least 3.73 gears...

    86 C20 SM465 to NV4500 swap

I would agree with this. 3.42 gears with those big tires is already in the realm of "economy/highway" gearing. I think you may find that after spending a lot of money and time doing the swap, you will end up driving in 4th gear most of the time unless you have a tail wind. I had a '90 Chevy...
