    Odd Cooling System issue

The factory setup in my '75 350 has the heater return hose to the radiator, and it definitely gushes into the radiator as soon as you start up the truck. However, with a 195 degree high flow thermostat (which also has the drilled bypass hole) I don't have any problem with getting it warm enough...

    Chevy 292 upgrades?

First, don’t make the mistake of ever calling it a V6, which you did in your 3rd paragraph. It’s confusing, and is also often a sign that someone knows very little about engines. Inline sixes are usually very smooth running (inline six has inherently better balance than a V8 or V6), but...

LMC AC controller has too many detents

The dash controller has to match the large vacuum switch bolted on the back (it’s visible in the photo of the newer switch). You cannot mix and match years. Also, my original ‘75 controls do not have the extra detent you show in your diagram. The ‘75 switch has no Max position because...

    Engine start issues

Make sure you have 12 volts to the distributor in start and run positions. The rod connecting the key mechanism to the electrical switch make be flaky, and the switch is not providing power to the distributor in both positions. I would also try a cold start by pouring a few ounces of gas into...

Is this part of the evap system?

Cruise control. The electrical wiring is to turn it on/off and adjust speed. The vacuum line running from the pod to the brake pedal makes the pod lose vacuum and drop the throttle ASAP if you press down the brake.

    Axle ratio help

Sine you apparently have a standard axle, without GovLock or other limited slip, you can determine ratios by counting wheel revolutions and driveshaft revolutions. This one site with an explanation of how to do it. https://www.moderndriveline.com/how-to-determine-your-rear-axle-ratio/

    Blower motor

I don’t have a good explanation or rationale. However, the HVAC fan in many houses also runs on a higher speed for A/C than heat, and when you manually turn on the blower it goes to the higher speed.

    AC Conversion Questions

The recommended retrofit orifice tube is the Ford Blue, instead of the GM white. If I remember correctly, it is a little smaller and should work better with R134. The correct green o-rings are easy to find, since I’m not sure I ever see packages of the old black seals.

2 vs 3 v- groove power steering pulley

Not sure it applies to every year, but on my ‘75 there are two choices for the PS belt. And I think that is why you have a 3 groove pulley. The longer PS belt, which was the HD cooling option, goes around the PS, crankshaft and the water pump. If the alternator belt breaks, you will still...

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

Gauge stepper motors were a problem on these GM trucks, and also on the 2005 Mustang GT I used to have. Sometimes they are slow to start up, so they read too low, and sometimes they just stick at one reading. Really confusing when one or two gauges is totally useless. New stepper motors are...

Steering Column needs to be rebuild

Bottom line - you need to get a source that understands the changes in the steering box, shaft and wheel from '75 to newer trucks. Newer and older design parts cost about the same, but you need the right one. If you look for discussions about using a Jeep steering shaft in a squarebody you...

    O2 sensor question

You might give Innovate a call and see if they have a suggestion. Making a hole big enough to fit that O2 sensor connector through is possible, but then you need to find a grommet that will close around the wire and seal the hole. Seems like there must be an easier method.

How to rehab a window regulator manual or power

It’s worth giving it a try. Had to scroll at bit to find the product list on YouTube, but its nothing exotic. My new regulators and felt are supposed to be correct for the year of my truck, and the windows are original, so the thickness of the glass should match the felt.

Inside the steering column, what is the steering "rack?"

When you disassemble the column you will find some internal bolts ( don’t recall exactly which ones) that have loosened up because folks use the steering wheel as a handhold to get in the truck. Highly recommend using lock tight on those bolts when you reassemble. Very common fix for a GM column.

How to rehab a window regulator manual or power

Does anyone have a procedure they use for adjusting the window and regulator after it’s installed? I bought and installed new regulators several years ago, along with new window felt. But mine are still so tight that my wife has to use two hands to roll them up and down. At installation...

Inside the steering column, what is the steering "rack?"

It is the steering "rack" and it's on the end of the physical ignition switch. - The column switch has a small gear on the end of it and it fits into a toothed area on the rack. - When you turn the key it moves the gear and the pot metal rack. - The other end of the rack then moves a rod up...

    Instrument cluster swap from Idiot lights to full gauges K5 K10 K20 K30 C10 C20 C30

Correct year for the temp sensor seems to be the most common challenge. They have discontinued the Delco sensor for my ‘75, and suggested replacements don’t have the right resistance range/profile to get a correct reading. Finally found more GM sensor info on a Corvette site and located a...

Need to replace rubber fuel lines on top of both tanks….

EFI SAEJ30R7 or R9 hose is expensive from the local auto stores, so I have bought sections (10 foot?) online from Amazon. I used the left over short pieces to replace all the short hoses on the dual tank solenoid and in the engine compartment.

Need to replace rubber fuel lines on top of both tanks….

If the bed bolts spin when you turn them, I’ve found two ways to hold the smooth bolt head in the bed. - dimple the bed slightly around the bolt head, providing enough space to clamp on vice grips. If you orient the vice grips out toward the side you can also slip a piece of pipe over the handle...

New dash bezel deleting wiper switch on dash

Maybe you can use the old wiper switch location for some other type of switch (fog lights, cargo lighting, etc.). Might take a little fabrication because the hole is pretty big, but it could work.

K20 upgrades. EDELBROCK AVS II. Why so negative ?

I have not looked at the Edelbrock 1906 AVS2 specs for rods/jets and springs, but maybe they richened it all up a little. Also, the annular boosters are suppose to be much more effective at lower throttle, so maybe that is why it seems to be excellent off the line. I think the Edelbrock 1406...

    87 R30 - No power in cab

If you look at the power junction that is on the passenger side of the brake booster, this is the main power junction. The line going directly down from it should be the main power feed to the fuse panel, and it has a fusible link in it. This link may have burned out.

1987 LS swap , dual tank, primary left side in tank fuel pump & Right side tank convert to a transfer tank setup to fill left tank anyone done this?

Maybe simplify your life and swap to a single Blazer or Suburban tank at the back of the truck. Not sure if the big Suburban 40 gallon tank fits, but I know that folks have swapped the smaller tanks.

    Fan blade

I would check the LMC truck web site. They usually have good pictures and size descriptions.

    O2 sensor question

My gauge uses the LC-1, and the instructions tell you to mount it under the vehicle near the O2 sensor. The LC-2 is part of a different Innovate product, and it has a different installation requirement. I know the LC-2 is newer and has more features.
