1980 k10 dual shocks to single

I think that looks better, and newb questions are part of the learning process. In your picture, it looks like you have a jack under the front axle, supporting the truck. That's going to compress your leaf springs. In that position, your front shocks will also definitely be compressed to some...

1980 k10 dual shocks to single

That "bolt" is for mounting rear shocks to the frame rail. I don't think it belongs with your front shocks.

Hello, New Members Here and Saying Help

Fix the turn signals and start driving that thing! Often times turn signal issues are caused by bad grounds, or incorrect bulbs. Check those easy things first. Everything else you listed can be fixed with minimal down time while you're having fun putting around in it. The sooner you start...

    Best Gasket Sealer

In my experience, rear end covers are pretty easy to seal. Just about any RTV/gasket sealer should work as long as the diff isn't filled to soon after assembly. No gasket necessary. If you're eager to dump fluid in it immediately after sticking the cover on, use whatever sets up the quickest.

    Water pump questions

SBC's used both "long" and "short" water pumps. The casting is different between the two styles, which puts the drive pully on a different plane relative to the mounting surface on the engine block. Confirm whether your leaking pump is a "short" or a "long", and buy the same style replacement...

    14 bolt brake drum question

Thank you for the pictures, and the links. I have a better understanding of how the drums and hubs go together now. A picture's worth 1000 words... I believe my hubs/drums look like @sickchev example pictures above. With that being said, could it be possible to swap the hubs from my 11"...

    14 bolt brake drum question

I'm pretty sure I have the smaller 11" brake drums. See the picture below; wheels are 16" for reference. I'm guessing my ability to use the 13" set up that's for sale, including backing plates, depends on whether my drums sit in front of or behind the hubs. Does that sound correct? The...

    14 bolt brake drum question

Thanks for the info! I'll have to look things over more closely on my truck. I haven't taken the rear wheels off this one since I bought it, so I have some learning to do. I've been in many 10 bolts, but the 14's are still new to me.

    14 bolt brake drum question

Thanks for the feedback guys. My K20 is not used for towing, just hauling stuff and hunting, so I'm not too concerned about heat dissipation in the rear drums. I agree that powder coating will reduce the ability to cool the drums to some extent, but it's not like we're talking about an...

    14 bolt brake drum question

Do these look like the 11" or 13" drums? The guys says they came off of a '76 3/4 ton single wheel 14 bolt rear end with 9,300 original miles. It got a disc brake upgrade, so he's unloading these parts. If they're the correct diameter for my truck, what would be a fair offer? They are...

    Brush Guard, watchu tink?

Usually my old Chevys do pretty good clearing traffic. It'll be interesting to see if the brush guard on the K20 helps even more. It's a real shame riding/driving with my wife in her Civic. That poor car gets no respect in the fast lane.

    Brush Guard, watchu tink?

I should post a little more info for anyone still following along, or maybe someone in the future. Some lessons learned, if you will... First, the outer front bumper brackets will not mount to the frame with the bumper installed. My truck was missing the outer brackets when I bought it, but I...

First square body and I'm using it as a daily driver shop truck. Wisconsin

@squarebodyScotty What's wrong with your truck and why are you listing it on Marketplace??? I wasn't expecting to see that pretty truck come back on the market so quickly :( Hopefully we can talk you through whatever ails it, and you can remain a Square owner well into the future.

    C20 to K20 conversion questions

I remembered your conversion and looked up that thread to confirm it was you. Did you replace the modified 2wd frame under your dually with a 4x4 frame like you planned? @kmc_hauls, take @Raybob9289 first hand advice. Or plan for a lift to build some clearance between the engine crossmember...

    Brush Guard, watchu tink?

I got the brush guard mounted over the winter, and finally got the truck outside for a picture. It was certainly worth the modest investment.

Rear brakes are giving me fits.

^ You might be on the right track there. If the bleeder screws are tight in the wheel cylinders, and the wheel cylinders are at maximum expansion, the drums may not fit over the shoes even if the parts are otherwise installed correctly. In other words, try cracking the bleeders on the wheel...

'83 305 No more ESC, but now it is dieseling

ESC is electronic spark control. It's a system designed to retard timing if the engine detects knocking. Vehicles with ESC use a specific ESC ignition module in the distributor. I think it has 5 terminals instead of 4 like on typical HEI ignition modules. The system consists of more than the...

    Ticking/slapping noise

The prominent "ticking" in your video sounds like an exhaust leak to most/all of us who've watched your video. Anyone who's owned a street car with headers has heard that sound before. If you've replaced a "section of exhaust", where was that section? I'm guessing it was after the y-pipe (the...

Help with sudden engine knocking and clanking

You might be on to something with the cracked flex plate idea. I had a cracked flex plate once, and if I remember correctly the sound did change depending on how it was loaded (e.g. acceleration, coasting, idle, etc.). To me, it did sound almost like an engine knock. I'm not sure why it would...

Temp reads 220 after warm up and regular driving, 6.2 Diesel

Has it always done this since you bought the truck? There are different temp sending units that produce different resistances. I'd guess that it has the wrong sending unit in the engine. I know I've had to get different temp sending units to get my small block temperatures to read accurately...
