Should i fix the TBI or go to carb? And what's this wire?

The original TBI does use an oil pressure switch as part of the electric fuel pump circuit but it is only a backup. It is there to allow the engine to get fuel even if the primary circuit fails.

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

I cannot get rid of the tool box. I never had one before but I use that one far too much. And I have too many folks with classic vehicles that expect me to have that toolbox at events. I sure would like to have a set of the original like you show in that pic, possible cut down in length to...

1987 Suburban Silverado Sun visor 4WD instructions decal available??

I sort of doubt it...FYI that sticker is not unique to the Suburban. I have the same sticker on the sun visor of my '87 V1500.

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

That sounds like a Dumb Idea. Who would do such a thing? Honestly, mine was done like this when I bought it. I have to Do Something about my rails, they look awful but I feel like the truck needs them to stay. Any thoughts @FireTruck1984 ?

    Wheel/Tire Opinion

If you are going to keep your original wheels (and I encourage you to do that! They look great!) the 255/70R15 that @bucket recommended might be exactly what you need. I will "argue" with bucket that the 255/70 is slightly taller than the 235/75...but we are talking a total of 4.5mm. That is...

    Wheel/Tire Opinion

What exactly are you asking here? Are you looking for new wheels? Or just looking to get a wider tire? A tire that is wider but not taller? I think you are asking for a wider tire that is close to the same height. If that is your question, it may help you to know what those numbers actually...

    Cup Holder Options

It's gonna be close. My transfer case shifter works under the LMC Truck version but it is close. I don't think it would fit under the LS Fab which sits lower. I cannot say for sure.

Should i fix the TBI or go to carb? And what's this wire?

While I was really hoping you would get this fixed...I know exactly where the original air filter housing, the plastic snorkel and any vacuum hoses associated with the EGR valve need to go. ;)

    Cup Holder Options

Why you gotta be hatin' on the hook? I completely agree with you, the hook is NOT the way to go. I like the LMC cupholder but it won't accommodate a Yeti or HydroFlask. It won't even hold some of the 16 ounce plastic bottles. I have just popped the plastic insert out to make it hold a...

    Cup Holder Options

I looked at that cup holder very seriously but I was worried about the safety of it. My son has to sit in the middle when we have a third person and that middle seatbelt is only a lap belt. I worry about the absence of modern safety features already, having a stainless steel blade to cut into...

Should i fix the TBI or go to carb? And what's this wire?

It just seems to me that if it is the ECM, that would be an easier and cheaper fix than modifying the fuel system. I feel like you have the skill set, the tools and the tenacity to get that thing running like it was designed. I was determined that if I could find a TBI 350 I would make it...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have to disagree with your research on this one. My '87 has its original TBI 350 and it is almost exactly like your pic. No option for the mechanical fuel pump. I do have more bolt holes than your pic shows.

What have you done to your square lately??

It's funny to me that we always want Something Different. The more commonplace a classic vehicle is, the lower its value. Something rare, something different is almost always worth more. When I was at Cruisin the Coast probably 98% of the 2WD squares were lowered. Lowered C10s were so...

What did you pay for a square

@carfanatic63 what is this on the left side of this pic? That is a very 1980ish seat... I almost see some GL1000 looking reflection in the side of the beautiful black rear fender.

What have you done to your square lately??

I used it to drag my little trailer to pick up a few boards for my Dad. Pop doesn't say much about the Old Truck but he gets in it every time and rides along. I am not sure he understands how much attention it gets. At the lumber yard folks kept coming over to ask about it. I almost ran over...

What did you pay for a square

Good Lord, I need to invest in a car hauler trailer and start transporting. I paid $15K about 18 months ago for my 1987 and it was A Deal. I had been shopping for months and didn't find anything even close to what I got for under $25K. I had multiple people telling me I stole this truck and...

Help me out on TBI to EFI

I have stood in front of the parts counter at my local O'Reilly's showing the employee my phone with the information from THAT store a bunch of times since I bought this 1987. They have almost always been appreciative and helpful, but I am polite and not condescending when I do it. Back on...

    TBI rebuild kit.

I just ordered the Standard from O'Reilly. The only thing it didn't have that I wanted was a new spring for the regulator.

    Posi Traction

I don't think that was his intent at all. The man has 2.73 gears and is spinning one tire because he doesn't have any positive traction or limited slip. He is doing one of several possible upgrades. I personally would not want 2.73s and no posi-trac in my own truck. And it is HIS truck after...

SM465 manual clutch to NV4500 hydraulic clutch

@DaisyLDG619 I can possibly try to get some better pics of the pedal, it was more difficult than you might think to get those pics. I am just pointing the camera upwards and then deleting the worst of them. I don't think it should be that difficult to get the factory hydraulic components. The...

SM465 manual clutch to NV4500 hydraulic clutch

Don't know if you are aware but GM started using a hydraulic clutch pedal assembly on the later square bodies. My '87 has a hydraulic system. Perhaps you could see about getting some of those parts? If you need me to, I can try to get some pics of the pedal and anything else in my truck. In...

    Differential Gear Ratio

I cannot help you on the designation but I will say that you should definitely feel some improvement if you go from 2.73 to 3.42 gears. I remember driving and riding in several '83 and '84 trucks very similar to yours and it was difficult to break the tires of that era loose with the 160HP 305s...
  25. Redfish

    Posi Traction

That's the question, IF you currently run 3.08 gears. Dropping to 3.42 will give you a little better acceleration and probably won't hurt your mileage very much. Unless it is raining or you have already done some work to your 305, you aren't going to be spinning your tires much anyway so...
