The engine brain cam in today, a few pics. In retrospect, I wish I had gone solid roller, less trouble with solids, and much higher lift. Disappointingly the Johnson lifters did not come like they were supposed to today. Cam is beautiful and should work good with this combo. I had to use more...

I like a positive retention of the cam bolts, and ARP bolts for the head. Fit perfect.

I also notched the block to help with intake shrouding, 1st two pics. For those that want to know, stay .06 off the top of the ring, and use your head gasket as a templet and scribe a line. I had hard stones on a die grinder, and finished with the finest cone I had, but pleased. Why? worth about...

Its Friday, and I had a good day in the shop. First two pics of the finisher ports. Cleaned the heads, and assembled. I blow the guides out with carb cleaner, air, then lube, assembly lube, and Lucas, as it is so sticky and stays on the stem. It is nice having the valves in, but cannot install...

Got a bunch of parts coming in Friday, Hope to assemble heads tomorrow, but need cleaned up, but got the parts washer with new kerosene, so that will help some. I am close to having all the parts to begin assembly, just a little bore work to do. Pic...

    350 bearings questions

With the pan off like you have it, position any easier to get to rod at 90 degrees, unbolt cap and pull it off. install 3/8 hose on rod bolts if rods are stock, and turn crank another 90*, now you can measure. You will need help probably with reinstalling the rod back on the crank. However in...

Project is stalled. Cannot solve brake problem

Is this vacuum canister, or upgraded to Hydra-boost. If vacuum canister, is the diaphragm good? You have plenty of vacuum for a diaphragm system.

    Cab repair stabilizing

Did this on my 64 Nova, basically removed the whole back half of the car. My body shop buddy told me to weld braces in the body to the floor, and doors and trunk, so I did. two full rear quarters, and full trunk, everything lined up as good as can be expected, doors and trunk shut nice...

each day, lil' closer. Installed freeze plugs, using Permatex #1 brown form-a-gasket, rated for this application. Also installed all the pipe plugs formally removed for cleaning, used pipe dope. Started in finishing the bores with the green scotch-brite pads, and fingernail drag test is...

    Father / Son project K10

Been building two rigs for ten years now. Almost a year into my 73 square. Keep with the plan, (you do have one!) or end up like me. All that aside, cherish the build with your son, and Welcome to the FAM.

thank you my squarebody brothers. Town day, went to Harbor Freight and bought four tables. I saw Nick's (Nick Trans fame,) work bench on two tool boxes, thought it was a good idea/ $119.00 ea for two benches which will give me 8' of bench space and lights and peg boards on each one. Plenty of...

    Fuel tank straps

I did this not to long ago. Would not do it in the truck, and besides if you drop the tank it will allow you to cleanup and paint. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/new-for-me-1985-silverado-20-6-2-diesel.32359/page-5 Page 5 post 65 shows the tank strap and bracket. Installed my valley screens, and drilled drain back holes in the block. This is all an attempt to keep the oil off the crank, routing it down the timing cover, and the back of the engine. Also should speed drain back to the pan. Few pics, bolts are holding screen down. Bought screen from amazon...

Shop cleanup day, but here is the engine painted. Tomorrow I will start various block modifications, mostly oil control. Ordered the front timing cover. Makes it a fool proof cam shaft end play adjustment. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CIPOOC/ Will buy a timing chain like this, as cam will go...

    Engine Swap Transmission Selection

I had my 4l60e in my 98 z28, rebuilt at a local shop where I know the guy, but didn't last. Built my 350 at home using two books, and some videos. Yes I did have some troubles, had to take it back apart a few times, but though nervous whin I installed it, it worked amazingly well. It was behind...

More done, I had the piston on backwards, was so excited to try it out, but now nothing hits. What a relief as I paid to have the motor balanced to .2 grams, not the usual 2 grams. Pulled apart again, and painted the block black because it is more thermally efficient then the blue.

    1974 c10 didn’t start-fuel problem?

$400 buck is $400 bucks....but I replaced both tanks, sending units, valve (six way) and cab switch and nary another fuel problem. You can see part numbers and install here: https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/new-for-me-1985-silverado-20-6-2-diesel.32359/page-5 page 5 starting at post 65

who can help identify this frame?

The S10 frames are used in many 47-55 1st series trucks, almost a bolt on there is a f-book group dedicated to this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1316351842443154. I may go this route for my 54. Nothing wrong with what you are doing though.

rubber band tires really pull you around on the grooved big truck highways around here, just a consideration.

Surprisingly, no interference with crank so also a plus. Massive interference between the head and piston. Checked piston CH +1.280 so that is correct, and the rod length is 6.386 with calipers, supposed to be 6.395, so close enough. So winning some and loosing some. I did an extensive...

Deburr bearings on both sides, install crank with light oil, and spins freely, so no line bore needed. Installed piston and rod on #1 deck height is about .015, so ok. Indicator used to find TDC.
