    K5 Removable Top

i've had 3 72 k5 blazers and here's what i know, if you have shitty paint and body you only need 2 guys. if you have a nice restored blazer you will need 4 guys. 1 man can take a top off by himself with little effort by using an engine crane and slings. i have done it several times by myself...

APB - Check your cowl seam seals!

on my 81c10 i just laid 2 layers of fiberglass spanning the seam, then topped it with 2 layers of bed liner. it seems like a sturdy seal.

How hard is it to swap my 3.08 gears to 3.73 gears?

a 350 with an rv cam to make low end torque would solve your problem. better yet a 400sb with a rv cam like in my 72 k5 would make you forget about gear ratios and tire sizes. speaking from experience with 2 different vehicles. i highly recommend that you don't try to set up a gearset by...

Lets talk about zinc, engine oil and flat cams

i had a 350 simply run out of power due to cam wear. swapped that motor for a 406 sb. changed the cam and timing chain and installed the 350 into my 81 c 10, 14k miles later running great. rotella 15-40 and zink additive with every oil change. not taking that chance again.

Young Broke and Wanna Go Fast

i would scour craigslist or other similar venues to find a complete running 350 engine with a recent build. one that you can hear run or that is still in the vehicle. i see them regularly for about a thousand$ more or less. often rodders just decide to go in a different direction and have to...

Got to a project I was putting off... Swapping to a tilt column

tilt goes in everything i build. so much easier to get in and out. was lucky to find one at Carlisle for my '81 for $50 with a key. like a sore dick, can't beat it

STP oil additive with Zinc - opinions, please ....

if you are running a flat tappet cam and not adding zinc you are simply rolling the dice. yes some will get lucky and get long service on straight conventional oil, i was not so lucky. my engine builder proposes using rotella t4 and in addition i add 4 to 6 oz. of lucas cam break in lube with...

    R-12 refridgerant to 134

there is another part of this whole AC thing that most don't address and that's insulation. once the floor pan heats up from the driveline and exhaust, it's that much more load on the AC. lizzard skin underneath and dynamat inside go a long way to keep the heat out as well as quieting the cab. i...

    vinyl floor replacement help/opinions wanted

i would spring for the dynamat, heat and sound reduction just makes the whole driving experience better. Icon and all of the pro builders use it. quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

What to do? What to do?

if you replace a 400 with a 350 you will wonder what happened to the torque! #2 for me. my '72 k5 has a mild 406sb and easily out torques my .60 over 350 (360) in my '81c10. both have the same rv style cam

Is this the engine?!? Did I find the one?

i would not use mobil 1 or any other modern oil synthetic or regular without using an additive designed for flat tappets. there are oils on the market designed for flat tappets but they come with a hefty price tag. my engine builder recommends rotella. i see rotella now comes in a formula for...

Extremely new to the concept of locking hubs

to bucket, agreed not a sure fix. he didnt say he was having problems, was simply waiting for them to fail and then replace them. not the direction i would take

    Break-in oil

i'm with shift pro, rotella 15-40 with break in lube. 2,000rpm or so for 20-30 min. i usually drive 'em a few miles before dumping the oil. if its a flat tappet cam, you will need to use an additive with the rotella. i use lucas but they all do the same thing

Extremely new to the concept of locking hubs

i would not wait for the auto hubs to fail. take the time to disassemble them, clean everything , properly lube everything, and put it back together. cost of a little solvent and grease and maybe 2 or 3 hours labor is time and money well spent.
