    COWL HOOD MOLDING

I have looked at the aftermarket trim. I just cannot find anything that I like. The original trim actually slides over the lip. If all else fails, I will look at the trim that has an "L" notch on it so it looks like it wraps the edge at least.

    COWL HOOD MOLDING

Not sure why they have not reproduced this piece. There were plenty of Silverado's, Blazer's and Suburban's that had that trim package. Next week I am going to my favorite boneyard to see if, by chance, one is hanging out on a hood that looks really good and just waiting for me to find it and...

    COWL HOOD MOLDING

I am also looking for this piece. My truck is a Silverado and it came with it from factory. The coating over the silver has turned yellow. I do not know if the silver is plastic or thin aluminium or stainless. I have been looking every where for one. I see plenty for Camaro's, Chevelle's...

Desperately look for this trim piece

Does any know where I can find this trim piece? If you cannot tell what it is, it is trim piece on the rear edge of the hood @ window/cowl. My truck is a Silverado and it came with it from factory. The coating over the silver has turned yellow. I do not know if the silver is plastic or...

    Eastwood internal frame coating review

I have also used the Internal frame......many, many, many, MANY!!! cans of it. I have stuck that little hose in every orifice I can find on my truck to make sure that the rust is coated - rockers, bed support rails, inside the drain holes for the double fenders, through the cargo light opening...

    Differential gear conundrum

Once upon a time, it ALL started (2 years ago) because the heater core crapped out. So, I had to take out the carpet on that side because it was soaked with antifreeze and water. Well, that led to removing the seats, pulling all the carpet, removing the old cracked dash, pulling the instrument...

    Differential gear conundrum

Reassembled and used gasket shellac. So far, so good. No leaks

    SAE or synthetic

Well I just watch a show on Motor Trend and there was a segment about...........OIL!!! Basically, the bottom line, and take away, was put in your vehicle what the manufacture calls for. And that I do/will.

    Differential gear conundrum

I want to take this time to thank everyone that helps me with my issues - which I have posted many on this board. I really appreciate and rely on your expertise and you do not just shrug me off because I am a woman, or make me feel my questions are stupid (even if they may be ;) ) I am the...

    Differential gear conundrum

Thanks!!! I am the daughter of a mechanic - grease doesn't scare me, that is what they make Goop for right???? (I like the orange :) ) and nail brushes, soft scrub and even acetone at times. I don't wear gloves........probably should with all the chemicals I have had my hands in.

    Differential gear conundrum

Unfortunately, the numbers on the ring gear were not showing. The only numbers I have are proabably part #'s. I failed at that - sorry :( I know that it is a 3.40 axle.

    Differential gear conundrum

Okay ........ ALL DONE!!!! gear oil pretty dark, cleaned gears inside housing using 2 cans of Brakleen, cleaned face of housing and cover, used gasket shellac to attach gasket to both faces (everyone wanted to sell me gasket maker..........uh NO!!!! ), bolts clean and replaced and torque to 20#...

    SAE or synthetic

Probably going to get chastised for this, but how does anyone feel about Penzoil non-synthetic. This is what I have used in the past. Was told to steer clear of Quaker State years ago - I guess because of deposits. Also, what exactly is in a "high mileage" oil that isn't in a...

    SAE or synthetic

WOW!!! Thanks for all the info. I will definitely be using good 'ol dino fluids. Problem I have now is I do not know whether dino or synthetic is in my transmission after rebuild. AAMCO doesn't seem to have their S**T together enough to annotate what they put in so I know. So, once I can...

    Differential gear conundrum

Okay, have all the pieces to the maintenance (Fel-Pro gasket, gear oil & 2 cans of Brakleen) now just need the weather to cool down a little. I know I should not use any "gasket maker" but should I use some gasket adhesive when setting the gasket? If so, what brand do you recommend.

    Differential gear conundrum

Thanks so much for clarifying and your help. I was looking at another list trying to decipher and it had my axle as a K=GM of Canada D=Cadillac A= January. Very confusing. Now, once I pop this pumpkin, what is the best way to clean the internal gears in place. Or should I?

    Differential gear conundrum

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I saw some stamped numbers on that tube but didn't have a light and I need to clean it up a bit to get a good read. I will let you know how it goes. One more question, do you suggest I get a real gasket or use the RTF gasket maker when I reassemble.

    Differential gear conundrum

Actually it is raised lettering "GM8" on the drivers side axle tube.

    Differential gear conundrum

I want to change the fluid in my rear diff (even a girl can do this!!! ;D) as I cannot remember if, or when, it has ever been changed (I am sure it has over 43 years at some point). I always was told it had limited slip, how do I figure out if it does or doesn't because I know that if it is...

    SAE or synthetic

So my next question is........I tranny rebuilt. Needed to add some fluid and when I ask whether they used synthetic or non-synthetic, they (AAMCO) did not have a record of what was put in. When I ask if it would cause a problem mixing the 2 if I put in Regular Dex, they said no. What say you...

    SAE or synthetic

Thanks for the info. I use non-ethanol for fuel, so I will stick with the ol' tried and true SAE. That is what the engine was built to use, that is what I will use until I cannot get it any more. Just curious since there is so much of the synthetic out there.

    SAE or synthetic

So, my truck has 146,000 original miles. I have always used SAE 10-40 - not high mileage. It has always had a lifter tick. My dad (a career mechanic) and I tore the engine down to the block, lifters were checked/replaced as needed, magnaflux the heads and then reassembled at 97k - so back in...
