Not sure ?? I bought the pan off of eBay, didn't get a dipstick with it .. My concern is to not to over fill, want the oil to be below the crankshaft by a inch or two ... With where I have the oil level almost touching the GM windage tray is going to be my full mark on the dipstick .. Hadn't...- dragstews

Back to the oil pan .. Being I'm using a boat oil pan that allows for a great deal more oil capacity over the stock oil pan and the need for me to make up a custom dipstick, I'm going to set up where to have the full mark on the stick ...- dragstews

It's a jet spray.. Kinda like a giant dishwasher ... Does a nice job of getting the years of crud buildup off .. Must be fairly clean to magnaflux .. Doesn't do much for carbon buildup, did break out the sand blaster for that job .. Got super lucky with this set of 781 heads, found no cracks...- dragstews

The Oem windage tray and main cap bolts showed up ... The pan fit was real good, didn't need any mods done to the pan or the tray .. The Milodon tray and crank oil scarper are in route .. By the end of the week should have them in my greasy hands along with the timing cover and cam .. Double...- dragstews

Got a sack full of parts on order .. Hoping that I nailed down all the parts to get the oil pan on ... Be a few days till the parts are here .. Meanwhile did get the oil fill tube on line .. Won't be a need to climb on the fender to pour oil in ..- dragstews

I'm using a boat pan that Mercruiser made for the 454 BBC motors .. It holds bout 7 qts ... Has some baffles casted in the bottom to control slosh ... Thought was to add a bit more oil control at the crank ... We'll see how that will work out once the parts get here .. Being this motor... -
How many bolts hold the transmission on and where?
Be sure to get the right flexplate for your motor .. SBC 400 & BBC 454 are externally balanced ... They have a weight welded on ..- dragstews

No sh*t ... Lol (Pun Intended) I'm building a 454 Big Block, those bolts were in use on 65-up Vettes, Chevelle's any muscle cars/trucks of the era .. 396, 402, 427 and 454 mostly ... My plan is to overkill lower end oil control with using the GM plate and a aftermarket plate together ... -

Next items to nail down are the crank oil scrapper, windage plates and the main cap bolts ... Hoping the aluminum pan has room for the two windage trays .. Won't know till the install takes place .. Found the studs and the GM windage plate, their on the way to me from my hometown in...- dragstews

Took two pickup tubes to get it sitting where I wanted it to ... The first was to short, had a 15/16" gap .. Second one was a bit to long, but with some bending got it where it will work okay ...- dragstews

Well, it's not exactly plug & plug .. ! The Oem truck oil pump pickup tube not jibing with the boat oil pan .. Going to need the Mercruiser tube ... -------------------------------------- Seems that the Mercruiser pump pickup tube (pn 809772T) is not to be had ... Can't even order it, no longer...- dragstews
