What have you done to your square lately??

Absolutely. Why a retrofit system would be preferred over the one GM integrated into the design is beyond me. The biggest problems the factory systems have are... A: They're 40 years old. It's to be expected that some components are tired. But the parts are still available, so whether original...

What have you done to your square lately??

Most people speak as if heater cores are apocalyptic, but I'd agree that the GMs of the era are nowhere near that bad. For me, the biggest issue is them bolting it through from the other side. The Volvo I had was an absolute horror by comparison.

What have you done to your square lately??

Mechanically the internals are all the same. Theoretically there was such a thing as reverse rotation ring and pinion sets that were cut and lapped to turn the other direction. However, I'd guess that those disappeared even before they decided that any kind of factory prep could be replaced...

How to turn a half ton into a 3/4 ton?

My observation has been that the K10s have a perforated rear crossmember. I must admit, I haven't tried to find a non C6P K20 to compare. But if the crossmembers are different, who knows what else is different? There's also the prospect of rear leaf spring length.

    Mechanical lift pump blank plate?

It wouldn't be hard to saw one up out of a piece of steel plate. IIRC the 6.2 uses a plate with the pump, so you could probably pull that one off to use as a template.

What new tools have you got lately?

The current shop has 3ph power, but its days are numbered, and I'm not sure where we're going to end up, hence my concern about the drill press and a few other machines. I knew VFDs offered speed control, which is a nice feature on a step-pulley Bridgeport or a lathe. I just wasn't aware they...

What new tools have you got lately?

That's good to know. I have a 3 ph drill press that was going to get a rotary converter, but this is a better, and probably cheaper option. I was lucky, the Bridgeport already had a single phase motor.

What new tools have you got lately?

The Bridgeport is one of my favorite tools in the shop. Is that the 36" table? Also, you said a VFD? Wouldn't you be looking for a phase converter?

I think it's for a Spectrum, but probably the same results.

I have a couple of catalogs from the '80s that I'll try to look up for you. But it will have to wait until I'm back at the shop, which may be a while. Maybe list the part numbers that you're looking for so anybody who has info can share it.

What have you done to your square lately??

Extra bypass may be another effect, but they're usually made with a restriction because heater cores can moan during acceleration if they're not flow restricted.

What new tools have you got lately?

I have a LOT of S-K and unfortunately, they've had financial problems on and off for a long time. They're currently owned by a Chinese tool company and apparently they still honor the warranty. I'm not fond of them being owned by a Chinese company, but just like Shop-Vac, better Red than dead.

K10 14bolt swap now rear brakes lock up before the front

I've had both. The pickup had the JD7 brakes from the factory, and I duplicated the same specs when I upgraded the axles on the Suburban. Both trucks had the same issue. When the LSPV malfunctioned on the pickup, and since I hadn't initially installed it when I did the Suburban. Violent...

K10 14bolt swap now rear brakes lock up before the front

GMT400s wouldn't have used it because they had RWABS or later full ABS. The squarebody trucks used it, and it was for all intents and purposes "double-stacked."

K10 14bolt swap now rear brakes lock up before the front

Here we go again... First off, you need to get the right brakes in the front. Second, LSPV. Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. It's the height sensing valve that modulates the rear brakes when the truck is unloaded. Plenty of people will swear it doesn't make a difference, but the two Squares...

    K5 Frame Crack Honest Opinion

If it's really not cracked I wouldn't do the weld-on plate. But there is a brace kit that bolts on that I would definitely do. Not sure if this is the original, but they look like this: https://www.offroaddesign.com/steering/steering-box-braces-frame-repair.html

Can anyone tell me about this step bumper? (Aftermarket?)

Correct. We ordered the truck without a spare (long story about false economy and nagging wives) and we still got a jack. What we didn't get besides a wheel and tire was the spare tire carrier and crossmembers to support it. So for almost forty years we drove around with the spare in the bed...

Hydro boost brakes sometimes get very tight

We cooked a lot of hydro boosts with ATF. Repeat seal failures until we switched to PS fluid. Things may be different today, but when the truck was new ATF was a problem.

Do we have a show us your shop thread?

Most of the guys who put them in around here have to have footings poured for the posts regardless of the slab thickness. They seem pretty affordable, maybe talk to a supplier and see what they're offering.
