What have you done to your square lately??

It has been over a year since I went on the last trail ride with the off road club. In fact I haven't even used the truck until last month when I finally had time to drive it to and from work that week to use up some of the old gas in it. This weekend the plan is to go spend the day on some dirt...

    New truck/SXS

Once you get some seat time in the ZR2 post your thoughts here. I had a 1998 ZR2 truck. Really liked it except for the horrible life of the front ball joints. I've been looking at the Colorado based ones for years. Leaning towards the diesel version though.

    Radiator

Thank you for that information. I bit the bullet and ordered the same radiator for my truck. Will reduce downtime swapping it out for my OEM brass one. I'll take my old one to a shop 2.5 hours away and have them rebuild it for a replacement when it is needed.

Time for new shocks. Look at these!

My dad and I have had quite a few squares over the years. Bilstein and KYB are our go to shocks. Bilsteins are more expensive and I think the KYB mono max shocks are almost as good and are $25 cheaper each if you are looking at the 4600s (blue and yellow). My dad had the KYB gas a just shocks...

How would you make this truck less ugly??

My truck had a lot of surface rust, paint was really faded but I bought the truck without a tailgate. I got one at a junk yard but a brown tailgate on a blue truck annoyed me. I tried some rattle can paint, but just didn't really hold up. A lot of the roads and trails are so narrow with tree...

    Thinkin about my Jetta

I had a 2000 VW Golf TDI with the manual transmission. The manual will last longer and give you better fuel economy. Mine had 160,000 miles on it when I started modifying it. I put in newer injectors from a T4 and that alone boosted up power a bit and fuel economy. Next was a Malone tune and...

    Traction Aid for 77 K10

There was an issue with the Eaton E-locker. They are now up to the 4th generation now (I believe). Earlier ones had to unlock then lock again as you shifted from forward to reverse. And sometimes it didn't want to lock back up. I guess the newest ones don't do that anymore- but I don't have one...

    4.10 gears

RPM, speed, gear ratio, tire size calculator Spicer has a calculator for this (click link above). It even estimates in torque converter slippage. A 265/75R16 tire is 31.7" in diameter. But the tire will squish down due to weight. Isn't going to be a true 31.7". Lets say 31". With 4.10s you...

    4.10 gears

Some stock trucks even came with factory 4.56 gears. "Highway" speeds means many different things to people in different states. If you are in Texas with the speed limit of 85 mph and where people do 90 mph... then not so much.

    2003 Acura MDX

Nice score! And looks to be very clean. And why the hate of VW Touaregs? I have 3 of them. They serve their purpose... All depends on what you are used to. :happy107:

    Spark plug wires

MSD wires These are the ones I ordered from Summit racing last year. Been happy with them. $135 They technically are for the 454 but a little extra length is good so they can clear the ram horn exhaust manifolds I have.

What years was foam installed? What about the plastic? In the 80s?

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I believe this is what I bought at Lowes. Rubber weatherstripping, marine/automotive. Weatherstripping link

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I stayed away from the typical foam gasket material because I didn't want it to soak up "de-icer water" here and eat my truck more than necessary. I found some stuff that was more like a squishable rubber that wouldn't be as likely to soak up water (and potentially freeze in winter). I ran it...

Thoughts on going down to 37s?

If you were to change out wheels also then might keep checking the blem list at Interco if you want a better price: Blem List (click me) For instance they have five 37x12R17 tires for $269 ea Or seven 37x14.50R17 for $275 ea

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I think mine is moved closer to the cab than yours. The corners are pretty tight on mine. The directions say pull down on the very top of the corners when snapping/unsnapping. I don't think the snaps will ever pull thru that material- but I did have 2 snaps pull out of the aluminum square...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I previously had an aluminum topper. I started out with just clamps but when off roading and twisting up the frame I found that the topper would start to shift. I ended up just drilling one hole on each side to hold it. The ends still had a little "flex" in the clamps if needed. BUT- with the...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I bought mine used in 2012. It was wadded up behind some guys garage. He managed to stab/rip it somehow on the rear flap/window. Probably a 4" rip. I patched it, that panel is replaceable also but never did. I love it. It can fold down if needed, it is water proof. I've camped in the back of...

    Lifted Dually Suburban wheels/tires?

I did this once getting 3/4" crushed. Massive loader bucket was around 12' wide- took a big scoop out of the pile and dumped it right in my truck. They weigh you empty and then full... 5,500 lbs of gravel in my K20. Wasn't bottomed out, but anything above 45 mph was very scary. I stayed at 40...

    1985 K20 Suburban stabilizer

I went back to ORD's website and looked... I see they offer two options. One is their HD tie rod with factory tie rod ends and the other option is with their own design of tie rod ends. And that is the option you must have selected? In that case you would need to get one of their steering...

Anyone use edelbrock universal EFI fuel sump Kit w 2 tanks

I've been using the Edelbrock fuel sump for over 8 years. Haven't had any issues. Like the diagram above, output of the mechanical fuel pump into the sump, then the sump goes to the TBI unit I have and there was also a return (from the overflow vent). I also have dual tanks- no issues...

    NP 203 Shift pattern

The LOC position actually locks the "center differential" (transfer case). The 203 was supposed to be a full time 4wd transfer case. If the transfer case locked the front and rear axles together then it would fight you when turning sharp as the front and rear drivelines need to turn at...
