    Cracks in transfer case

The TH400 and SM465 share the same large output shaft. The TH350 is smaller and while you are rebuilding your case that would be an excellent time to swap the input planetary for use on the TH400. I'm not a "hoarder" but there is not much that I throw out; it has to be totally useless for it to...

The 4 bolt main LIE !!! Or is it???

The one that he used for an example had the stove-bolt style cannister that was actually bolted to the water outlet on the front of the engine. I have never noticed that before but again the 283 replaced the 265 in 1956 as far as what I've read. The 265 had a very short run. The older folks...

The 4 bolt main LIE !!! Or is it???

I've had my hands on many older vehicles and wrenched on a bunch of old and odd stuff. I was watching Ed Smith the other evening and he was talking about the 265 and how it was like the stove-bolt sixes with no oil filter. I have never noticed this and hadn't thought about it either. I remember...

Tire size or possible lift recommendations for the 79’ K30

Here is my 85 D30 with 3.5" Superlift and 37 12.50 16.5's and again with 36 13.50 16.5 IROk's on 8" wheels. There was a bit of tire scrub occasionally with the IROK's as you may probably see I changed the cab and fenders at that stage in the truck's life and the fenders were not cut. There is...

What have you done to your square lately??

The school year is winding down and it is super-busy with all the meetings and such with the graduating class. I have not been able to do much wrenching either due to the statewide backlog of Driver's Ed instructors and bus drivers keeping me busy in what would ordinarily be my afternoons off. I...

The 4 bolt main LIE !!! Or is it???

Have any of you folks seen @BarryTsGarage on YT? He has been doing "Ask Ed" episodes and I have found it to be both informative and entertaining. The experience and season of Ed Smith along with his personality and demeanor make it worth my half hour to watch. He has spoken about the 301 and...

    The new guy from Texas

Welcome from the Tarheel State, Lucas. That looks like a fantastic ride you have and I'm partial as it is the same color as my dad's truck that he bought new in 79. He too was a logger and put over 400K miles on the C20 while he was alive. Come on in and have a good look around. HS

Is your truck painted? Primer hides alot of damage/imperfections that shiny & reflective paint won't dismiss. Interior stuff isn't cheap & neither is body & paint. I can't believe that a car would be in a non-running condition due to a $25 ignition coil & 20 minute fix. If I made the trade...

The 4 bolt main LIE !!! Or is it???

Everyone gets excited to pull the pan on a 3970010 & see the four-bolt caps in the center. Having said, the teenage version of me was helping my bud build a 350 with 041 heads & Melling cam. This was Christmas of 1990 & I knew about as much about engines than I did p$ssy...I did like both...

14 Bolt 10.5" Rear Axle -FOUND-

We had a 79 C30 car hauler that the tube broke out of the center section. Makes for a bad day for certain. I understand wanting a direct swap for the ease of the job too. HS

14 Bolt 10.5" Rear Axle -FOUND-

I used an '04 Savana with dual piston calipers on my '55 6100. I had to relocate the spring & shock perches but I love the added track width that evens the front & rear.

Latest Lost Cause Project: 1979 Z28

Drive it and enjoy! I am a fan of making them pretty but all too often folks go overboard and sink far too much time, energy, resources and MONEY into a ride. I like my stuff shiny but I'll drive one primered, Calico, zebra'd...as long as it runs right. I commented earlier that you have a...
