I’m interested in swapping out the TH350 for a 700R4

PWM was introduced in 1995 for the 4L60Es so any ODB-1 TCC/component slipping codes would have applied for that year. Those codes were all two-digit codes without alpha-prefixes. 1993 vettes had 700r4s; they transitioned to 4L60Es in 94.

I’m interested in swapping out the TH350 for a 700R4

First gear is irrelevant to the mechanical leverage problem at higher throttle angles that can occur in overdrive (4th gear) when paring an overdrive transmission with something like a 2.73 final drive ratio or less. The 3.08 to 1 FD is the tallest ratio that I have seen that still works with...

Keep the anchor aside, there's a few valuable parts from it that i can use so can give you a little bit of credit for it towards your build when you're ready..ill let you know if i come into an 88-92 core as well.

    700 r4 trans pan ?

4L60=700R4; GM simply changed the naming convention in the early 90s so yes any 700R4, 4L60 or shallow-pan from a 93-97 4L60E will work on any year 700R4.

I can but if it has the 27-spline small-diameter input shaft (82-E84), you have to pay for a later (L84-87) pump and input drum. Both of those parts together are very expensive and hard to find. Count the splines on the input shaft to comfirm/deny... I thought you picked up a 90 or 91 core...

    700R4 Information Thread

Lol! Any 4L60E is going to be better simply owing to the fact you don't have to deal with the throttle valve system found in the 700R4s. But as far as case internals are concerned, the 1988+ 700R4s and 93-96 4L60Es are identical. You don't see any daylight between them until 1997 when GM...

    700R4 Information Thread

Happy New Year, @Royal Sierra 454! Sounds great. For year, look at the case above the servo bore for a large upside down 'U' shaped crease. That indicates a 1988-1993 700R4. 82-87 Lack that crease. Then look at the passenger side rear of the transmission, just above the pan for a...

I’m interested in swapping out the TH350 for a 700R4

Ok, you're good...One commonly overlooked aspect of doing these swaps is the gear ratio. Many have a very tall a gear ratio and dont upgrade to a deeper one before swapping in the OD trans. They then wonder why the OD trans keeps slipping when trying to accelerate in 4th gear.

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Rick, I'm assuming you meant to type "can't get"with respect to different tension 1-2 acc springs? If so, that is correct to the best of my knowledge

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Yep, Transgo starts out a good bit smaller in diameter for the 1-2 and 2-3 orifices compared to B&M so folks can 'work up' gradually...I like to direct people new to the process to Transgo's info as it let's them get to their final hole sizing while reducing the likelihood they'll go too far and...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Simple - drill the feed holes out.... The art vs science is knowing how much to drill each. You first have to take a variety of factors into consideration (and ill make this specific to the TH350)....They are as follows: 1. Vehicle application 2. Final Drive ratio 3. Converter Stall (perhaps...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Compare the instructions for each shift kit as it pertains to clutch feed hole sizes and you'll understand. It may also occur to you why spending money on shift kits for these transmissions is a waste to begin with, especially if you're rebuilding the transmission

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Nice job, Keith and you're very welcome! Now you know the relationship between that spring and piston and shift feel insofar as the 1-2 shift is concerned in the TH350, and to a great extent, same for the 2-3 and similar in pretty much every other GM transmission that uses a similar...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

No, sorry - i wasnt referring to you questioning me...i generally advise against leaving the 1-2 acc piston out when converter stall and trans are stock out for two reasons: 1. The delta in shift firmness with it removed is usually too aggressive, esp in a lighter weight vehicle (ie Nova)...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Yes but it wont cause a neck-snapping, back breaking 1-2 shift that the OP is describing (slamming into gear). To your point, it can and sometimes will prevent upshift if it's not functioning as i mentioned in that post above. And I have no issues with someone questioning what I say but there's...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Are you referring to me? None of what you suggested will fix his 1-2 shift and Dex 6 is totally unnecessary in a TH350, was engineered for later transmissions with different friction compositions which won't be applicable for these older units. The kick down cable controls, well "kick down"...

    Turbo350 w/shift kit slamming 2nd gear

Does your converter have a stock-level stall speed? If so, im not surprised that the 1-2 shift is super harsh as it was set up for that much higher 3500 stall. Check the 1-2 accumulator to see if the spring was omitted. If so, install a new spring and that should tame it. If the spring is...

    454 460 horsepower swap into a 1987 V10 with 700r4

If built correctly, the 700R4 can handle big block 454s assuming they aren't putting out more than about 550TQ...I know this for a fact as appx 10% of all my 700R4s have gone into big blocks and they've held up just fine...In stock form, I'd not recommend sticking a 700 behind one but my base...

    454 460 horsepower swap into a 1987 V10 with 700r4

If you have 33" tires you will prob want a deeper final drive ratio but that's assuming you actually have 3.08 and not 3.23 or 3.42. 3.73 would be ideal, IMO. 454 460 horsepower swap into a 1987 V10 with 700r4

You're welcome on both counts. Final drive ratio has nothing to do with what engine is installed but has everything to do with its relationship with the overdrive gear ratio in the transmission. Too tall a final drive will bog the engine when in 4th and TCC lock up while providing insufficient...

Ive built plenty of 700R4s behind big blocks making around that much torque/power but he's near the upper limit, beyond which you could spend an infinite amount of money and still break the transmission in short order...a few main things have to be card for, hard part wise and hydraulics but, if...

Contact your cam manufacturer, let them know the particulars of your vehicle including final drive ratio, engine, transmission, Y,M,M vehicle and they will give you a stall speed range for that cam grind in context with the rest of your powertrain/drivetrain. Also, no need to write everything...
