4L60/700r4 delayed engagement in cold weather

Didnt see a hyperlink embedded but will say that as long as the top end of it's PSI scale is 300PSI it should work fine. Start at idle in Park, Rev, Drive, D3, D2 and D1 w/foot on brake - see what your base idle pressures are and go from there. You should see immediate line pressure when in park...

4L60/700r4 delayed engagement in cold weather

Consider doing is a line pressure test to confirm/deny your pressures are within acceptable ranges for each gear position. I’d do that first when cold then do it again when at op temp (be careful) to see what the readings are at idle, min TV and full TV - let us know what you observe.

    4L80E Information Thread

Component Slipping codes are almost always torque converter-related in 4L80Es which, given your lack of noticable drivability symptoms points to valves in the valve body and/or pump: 1. TCC regulator valve (valve body) - output spool-bore is often worn and if yours is pulling single digit Hg...

    700R4 Information Thread

You can but your 1985 unit was designed to use a drum with a 2mm forward feed orifice in the forward drum. The 87+ 700s and 4L60Es all have drums with 6mm orifices as they were designed to work with a forward accumulator circuit. So your engagement into drive would be particularly harsh...

If you are using the mechanical TCC control valve train in...

    TH400 build

It's not necessary to keep beating this horse to death. Frankly nothing that is not directly related to your build and requirements matters. If there is one thing I continuously see in DIY or novice builders, it's unwarranted fixation on something not deserving of that person's energy or...

    TH400 build

Not from my point of view. As I said, you have to make the right calls and decisions for your build based on your requirements. I also appreciate you watching my videos; thank you for the support on YT.

    TH400 build

Evidence? From whom? Speaking to my own personal experience, I have never built a TH400 where I did just a bolt-on SFI bell housing. I have only done them with Reid Case, Ext Housing and Bell together. And only three that I have ever built were like that. 99.999999% of the time you don't need...

    TH400 build

You should be covered. Agree - I've built god knows how many TH350s and 400s and never had any issues w/the bells breaking unless there was something seriously wrong with the rest of the vehicle, structurally or otherwise. I will propose Reid cases and bells for racing apps in excess of a 1000...

    Another 700R4 question

Likely 3-4 clutch pack going out. Falling out of 4th is a common initial symptom. Falling out of TCC lock up is a different story and it’s usually caused by failing TCC solenoid but pump, valve body or converter are also suspects.

    Th400 wont go into 3rd

Not sure if you have already identified the cause but based on a quick review of the thread, I going to suspect your direct clutch pack is shot. Drop the pan and see if there's any burnt clutch material at the bottom...If so, yank it for overhaul...Install a 4L80E direct drum w/34 element HD...

700R4 no engagement any gear, ATF over-full

Either way it almost certainly has to come out based on the symptoms as described. Pump will also need machine work as it's likely scored up; they all are. If you own a 700r4, you absolutely need a transmission pressure gauge to conduct pressure testing. Not getting the TV cable adjustment...

700R4 no engagement any gear, ATF over-full

Likely pump failure. Do a line pressure test to confirm or deny or simply un-do one of the cooler lines, route it into a bucket and see if the pump is moving fluid. If no fluid flow or pressure, yank it for overhaul and send the pump castings out for machine work.

    Rebuilt 700r4 lost reverse

Hi Keith, one liter low may or may not have burnt the low reverse and/or reverse input clutch pack but I have my doubts as I've owned several vehicles over the years equipped with 700r4s and 4L60Es and have, on occasion, been that low with no discernable impact to any of the applied elements...
