New hydraulic roller bbc break in

Thanks guys. My engine builder whom is a borderline celebrity in these parts told me to get it up to operating temp and the 3/4 throttle it to near full throttle and let the engine brake itself and slow down to a stop 4-5 times. Once it gets near 50 miles, drain the oil and filter and put new...

New hydraulic roller bbc break in

Howdy all, We are about to crank our newly rebuilt bbc roller motor up Monday. We will use comp cams 10w30 break in oil for 100 miles or so and then run vr1 10w30 or 20w50 til 1000 miles and then switch over to Mobil 1 15w50. What are y’all running? What are y’all’s break in routines and oil...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Ended up going with a very reputable rebuilder and went 489 with all quality stuff instead of blueprint. He told me he rebuilds a ton of blueprint motors because they use junk internally. Round 2 here we go!

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Tore the trans down with the builder. All bushings look perfect so the bronze most likely came from the converter. Some of the forward clutches were a bit burned too. All other things looked good. I explained that my third gear felt too soft and the builder thinks our shift point was too low on...

Howard’s camshaft and lifter set with springs hydraulic retro roller bbc conversion

Howdy all, I have for sale a set of Howard’s hydraulic retro roller lifters and roller camshaft with matching springs (no keepers only springs) for a bbc. This set was used for 4k miles and pulled. Full kit retailed at $1250. I’ll take $500 shipped for it all...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

I drove the truck for 5-10 min at lower speeds with the burnt plug wire. Once we remedied the plug wire, I drove the truck another 800 miles and only monitored the trans temp (200 at highway speeds) after driving an hour. Curious to see how much damage is there. Being that we pulled the motor I...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Here is what the pan looks likes. There are some strips of bronze material. I’m assuming this is bushing or bearing material? At the time of install, I had a false scare where we tought the torque converter might be bad due to shuttering but it was a burnt plug wire. He is claiming that the...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Just pulled it today anyway for our engine rebuild. It’s on a stand so dropping the pan is easy; no go on the line pressure test.

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Firm shifts 1-2, 3rd shift feels soft. 4th feels good and lock up feels good. My builder is trying to exclaim that the canned Holley sniper tune for the 4l80e caused this (too short of shifts). We only put 800 miles on it thus far. I stick a magnet in the dipstick hole and there was some metal...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Nick, What do you think of the fluid color after 800 miles? Looks pretty dark brown to me (new fluid is on top). We are still battling 200 degrees at highway cruise with the trans temp. Dual cooler setup (radiator through to Derale aux cooler with fan.)

Sanden compressor and bbc Alan grove 122l bracket

Howdy guys, I’m moving to a serpentine setup so my 1000 mile Sanden brand compressor (v belt) and Alan grove bracket won’t be needed. The compressor was $279 and the bracket $120. You can take it all for $120 shipped. https://ebay.us/m/oF0gbd

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Yep but who’s to say that thing is built right too. This pricey guy will back his work locally.
