    Which Impact Tool

I keep looking at the Makita LXT 1/2inch impact, but havn't had the $$ for it yet. I have their smaller hex-bit driver and it has never let me down, and I got a couple extra batteries while they were on sale a couple years ago with the intent of getting more of the Makita tool line. My friend...

Not wanting to start cold, then high rev and now low to no gas

The IAC reset is pretty easy, it more or less happens any time you jump the pins to make the SES light flash out the codes. While the codes are flashing out the IAC goes to full closed position. Before you turn the key off, disconnect the IAC connector at the throttle body so it stays fully...

    L31 vs TBI 454 Swap

Didn't know they made that change - good to be aware of!!!

    L31 vs TBI 454 Swap

Some extra food for thought: I discovered 2 weeks ago while changing my 454 throttle body that the 1989 454 actually has a Quadrajet style intake bolted to the heads, and then above that a wet adaptor plate (has coolant routed thru it for unknown reasons) with the throttle body bolted onto that...

    Where does this pipe go?

If it has a flare fitting on the threaded end I'd guess vacuum line to the brake booster, but I'm not sure how you'd thread it into the intake if its not a flare nut.

What have you done to your square lately??

I replaced my throttle body with a rebuilt unit last weekend. The job would have been VERY easy , main problem was finding a mounting gasket (spent more time driving 90 minutes to the one store in the area that had one in stock than it took to swap the unit). I don't know if it was an...

    radio question

Are you in a metal building (the kind your truck is made of, not the kind you rock out to)? Radio doesn't work well inside an all-metal building, even if you are trying to listen to Ozzy. At the shop space I rent, phones don't even work well inside because its a big (and grounded) steel box...

    Gas tank won’t fill

I don't think the tanks have an overflow (been a while since I had a dual-tank rig) but I belive it IS possible for the switching valve to get out of sync or have the seals get loose and allow the fuel return to go to the tank that the fuel is not being drawn from. This is old memory so may not...

Trying to find OEM parts for my 1980 Chevy K10 cruise control.

I apprecate the offer - unfortunately I'm all the way down in central Texas so probably will have to let someone closer get the goodies....

89 V2500 seems to lack power going uphill.

Are you running TBI or a carb? I'd expect a 1989 to be TBI but maybe not. If you do have TBI, are you getting any errors on the service engine light?

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

I'm seconding the vote for timing being off. If its too far advanced the spark will fire before the piston has come up, and now your starter is fighting not just the compression but also the combustion.

Trying to find OEM parts for my 1980 Chevy K10 cruise control.

If people are rummaging around there junk stashes - I need similar parts for a 1989 big block TBI engine...everything is in place in the cabin but all the engine compartment side stuff is missing.

Why do Americans hate drain plugs? Drive line oil change queries.

That is pure truth. I just had do a transmission swap last month on the current project MGB - it leaked out of every place it shouldn't have, and was strangely clean in the places you'd expect leaks. Front and rear seals - perfect. Everywhere else - its raining 20-50!! I've never seen oil...

Why do Americans hate drain plugs? Drive line oil change queries.

That is one thing I always appreciated about my old British cars - they had a drain plug for everything. Radiator, engine block, transmission and rear axle. I was a little disappinted that the very late year transmission I got for the British car did away with the dipstick for checking the...

HELP .1987 v1500 runs rough under load

Since you physically verified the piston was at TDC when your timing mark also indicated TDC, that confirms your timing is set up. At this point I'd consider pulling a plug or 2 and visually examining them, a lean burning plug looks kind of bleached and shows signs of getting really hot, a rich...

LED Tail lights now slow blinkers

Superbright is who I got all the LEDs for the British car from - they even had the tiny old-school screw-in bulbs as LED replacement. The main reason to go LED was to take electrical load off of the 50+ year old wiring - putting 6 ohm resistors in the system would just bring the current draw...

LED Tail lights now slow blinkers

On my British car project, even after swapping to the electronic flasher I had to revert the in-dash indicator lamps back to the small incandescents - using 100% LEDs drew too little power for even the electronic unit to detect. With the incandescents back in the panel it worked properly...

How difficult is a throttle body swap?

Fortunately I have a TH400 so there is no TV cable to worry about, just the vacuum line going to the modulator. I'll check the box for the flat washer/o-rings (which I wouldn't have known to expect on flare fittings but thats why I'm asking now before it even arrives). I'm hoping it includes...

    ECM Harness Removal

I'd probably unplug at the ECU end (although in the interest of full disclosure I am not familiar with the LS motor wiring). At least on that end you know exactly where they go - its easy to label each one as they unplug (and I'd like to hope they are designed to only fit one way anyway). Will...

How difficult is a throttle body swap?

Ahh - thats one that would have gotten me. I don't have any metric line wrenches, but Harbor Freight does and since the throttle body hasn't arrived yet I'll make a point of going by there tomorrow on my way to work.

How difficult is a throttle body swap?

I'm not switching from carb to TBI or TBI to carb - I am just replacing (hopefully) 1 to 1 a worn out TBI throttle body with a rebuilt one. Assuming they send me the correct replacement, how difficult of a remove/replace is this? It looks easy on internet videos, which always makes me...

Your favorite old car/truck that you regret selling!

A couple I miss - my massive 1984 Lincoln Town car. It had way more problems than I could solve (it used Ford's first attempt at TBI injection - was every bit was problematic as my Suburban is now), suspension bushings were failing, interior door panels and such were completely falling apart...

HELP .1987 v1500 runs rough under load

Could also be coolant temp sensor reading abnormally high which would fit the "runs right when cold but not when hot" - although that SHOULD also throw a lean code on the computer because the O2 sensor will detect the lean condition.

    Intermittent shutoff

I did have a similar issue a year or so ago. Would be driving along and it would just go dead - if I was going fast enough the transmission would still keep the engine turning, but zero power. Gauges and radio would still be on. Restart would not occur unless the key was rolled all the way...

We’d Love Your Input — Help Us Improve the Site!

I'm still trying to figure out how cloudflare is even part of the equation. Are they intercepting all the traffic in and out of the actual web server? And if so, why?
