    Having the cable attached cannot write any changes to the ECU or PROM, you would have to have an actual PROM burner and a lot more expensive stuff (and even then you can't change an existing PROM, only write data to a new one and swap it in).     I bought the cable from Moates last year and use it with an obsolete old laptop running Windows10 and TunerPro RT. It wasn't cheap (around $80 if I recall) but works exactly as advertised. I agree with the other contributers, figuring out why your SES light is dead is an important 1st step.

    First thing to do is jumper the ALDL pins and see what codes blink out. Even when the light is off, the error is stored in memory so reading the codes will tell you what error(s) - could be more than 1 - triggered the warning light.
