Target master 350 reseal or run

I'd re-seal it also, and use shim head gaskets. Those engines are @ 7.9-1 compression and can use the bump in compression. Get rid of the nylon oil pump shaft collar and any nylon timing gear too (has to be brittle by now !). The cam has 18x* intake duration and is done around 3,000 to 3,500 ...

Thanks ! The full float axle would get the duals. What is the era of Caddy caliper to buy ? 19xx to 19xx ? ( I can find that with a search I'm sure , thanks for reminding us of it tho' ) The semi ain't so bad with a 9.5 ring gear and it's other shaft 'n bearing specs,( Dana 60 is only a 9.75...

Please excuse this thread hi-jack. I will be doing this to a C20 , did you have interference from the spring to inside tire ? Semi to full floater conversion ( 3/4 ton axle ), and changeover to dually. I also need to convert from the small 3/4 ton brakes to dually large drums or disc brakes...

    Slicks with 10 bolt

The stock carrier is a very weak link. About as weak as a 1/2 ton's U-joint !! If I were you I'd mark a straight line down the driveshaft to monitor any twist in it. With 400 hp @ the fw plus a nitrous hit and a stall speed - you'll stress the stock components to breakage in the whole...

    New wheels

What size of rear drums do you have , 11" or 13" ? I have a '79 K20 full-floating rear axle I just bought and it seems to have 11" drums. Much smaller than my only 3/4 ton I've had or any of the 1 tons.

    Slicks with 10 bolt

I'd go right to the steel billet driver's side carrier bearing cap and 1/2 studs and forgo using just the reinforcement type diff cover. Alloy 30 spline axles and an aftermarket carrier are defiantly the way to go also ! Stick or auto, BBC or SBC , Nitrous / supercharged or NA, how bad will...

    Shock/Sway bar ?

I've had great luck with the "Gas Magnums" on full size trucks and wouldn't consider the "Gasmatics" which I installed on my wife's blazer - not happy with them at all !

Here's a link for disc conversion kits, semi and full and others : http://www.lugnut4x4.com/ His kits seem to be around $315 to $340 on avg.

Good engine blocks for a build

Dogbones = the factory "paired lifter retainers" ( for lack of another better term), and Spider = their spring steel "keeper plate". All part of the factory roller cam/lifter system, just look for pics and it'll be clearer than mud.

    350 ID Help

    There is a 1974 350 and a 1978 350 with CMR also. 145 hp and 220 hp. The '78 is a vette listing - don't know if that helps the chance of being a 4bolt !

    350 ID Help

I think it is a '74 and if so it came with a 2bbl and an auto trans. Casting code on the rear of the block tells us more , but nothing will tell you for sure if it is 4 bolt mains without looking.

    Gm 350 #10067353

Vortec heads, a roller cam , and what's probably a point and a half of compression you think would be only about 15 hp ?? I'm guessing 40 - 50 hp !

    Tick at start-up

Still sounds like a bad lifter , unless it's an oil pressure issue .

    Tick at start-up

A lifter is bleeding down while it sits. Is this a high mileage engine ?

    Gm 350 #10067353

This is a great bargain in my opinion ; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12530282/overview/ Vortec heads, 9.4-1 compression, one piece rear seal, and a roller cam ! What's not to like ? :party36: For $30 more you can buy the 4 bolt main version. If you do change the cam in it - the...

Good engine blocks for a build

I couldn't agree more, a late model block also has the one piece rear seal. A good used version of this era of engine alot of times will be a cheaper and easier rebuild. Cylinders that only require a hone and new rings, roller lifters that can be re-used , and vortec heads too. Better stock...

    Axle identification

Pull the covers and get the numbers off of the ring gears or count the teeth already. Just mark a tooth with a grease pencil or welder's chalk and count, do it twice to remove the doubt of error. Nothing like knowing for sure what you've got.

    Best rear locker/ best price?

Detroit TrueTrac, it is a all gear bias-sensing limited slip. Smooth as an open diff and strong as all their products. Lockers are harsh On-road and will push you straight when its slick unless you let off the gas ( rain , snow, or ice). There are different needs for each scenario , and for...

    400 SBC from a RV

I don't know what they're thinking, must be plenty of 20,000 mile,( or less ), 440's laying around for $300 or less !

    14 Bolt Differential - Lock

The Detroit Locker is the least expensive ( of his selections ) at "Tom's Differentials" @ $479.25 , and you can probably install it yourself since it goes into the stock carrier and replaces the cross shaft and spider gears. They work great but are alittle harsh . The Detroit TrueTrac would be...

    350 Upgrades & Progress

All the way down to where it would've been easy to replace an old worn cam and lifters - but no go !? And maybe a new oil pump and oil pan gaskets too !? Looking alot better. Is this the original engine and is it high mileage ?
