What have you done to your square lately??

My 81 GMC currently has 207000km or approximately 160000 mile and I would rough estimate 300 passes down the drag strip. It went down the track 50 times this last summer alone. In 1988 it was a track champion in the street class. And the transmission has never been out of the truck, oh it did...

New seat bottom foam vs re-building existing?

When I went to put a new cover on I found the frame to be broken in one spot and cracked in another that allowed the seat to sag on the drivers side when you sat on it. Welded it up and is good now. Pic shows the break repaired and the crack which received a weld.

    Anyone install truetrak limited slip?

Installed the TrueTrac and now can do a two wheel burnout. Hooks good at the track. City driving with tight corner or parking in a parking lot you would think the open carrier was still in it no binding or popping.

    Which shocks do I need?

With spindles the shock height or length remains the same it is shorter springs that shorten the required shock length. I run 2” spindles and 2” Bell tech springs and after checking mount distance ended up using the stock shocks and it works fine. With a 3” spring you might need shorter shocks...

What have you done to your square lately??

Made these by sewing vinyl into tubes and sliding over belts. They don’t hold them up like the plastic but look a ton better than my busted up missing parts stock ones.

What have you done to your square lately??

Oil change. Counted the service record book and it was the 44th time I changed the oil on the old girl.

What new tools have you got lately?

Made an extra deep socket to remove the drive sprocket on a Harley Super Glide. 1 7/8 socket chopped in two and pipe welded in to extend it.

    How quick is your Square?

Good eye. Castrol Raceway now has the race timing slip on an app and it includes weather stats and calculated altitude. Kind of neat but I am old school and like the paper slips.

    How quick is your Square?

I think I found a problem with fuel delivery. It is a piece of rubber gasket that I think is from the fuel pump deteriorating. I got a pick in to get it out and the nut is 1/4” for comparison. New pump and installed an Edelbrock in-line filter and in a couple of weeks will take it to the track...

    How quick is your Square?

3546 alt. 64degree F no spin but I feel it was running out of gas in the top end and have a new fuel pump coming to replace the original.

    How quick is your Square?

Had the old girl to the track and ran 15.90 at 85 mph. Now you might not think that is too great but considering it’s a 1981 and the short block and trans have never been out of the truck. It did have a basic valve job 30 years ago. Still stock manifold and Qjet. Cam, headers and gear change to...

    Headlight question 85 C10

I put my low beams on the bottom on my 81 due to back in the day I raced snowmobiles for a number of year and coming home in the dark I always seemed to get caught in a snow storm. With the low beams lower it helped to see the road. If you have ever driven on the highway at night in a snow storm...

How to measure your driveshaft correctly?

So you don’t have a drive shaft and need one made. How much movement do you give the slip yoke at the transmission before you measure from trans yoke to diff yoke?

    Why trans/driveline 'clunks' when I put in reverse? '87 TBI 350 w/700r4

While listening under your truck watch and listen at the leaf springs and see if the slap together when put into reverse. Some called it spring wrap some spring slap.

Anyone ever seen a dash like this in a 73?

    Ring and pinion swap

Be aware that there is two different ring and pinions (thick vs thin) that will depend on which carrier you have. Carriers are made for a certain range of gear ratios and it will determine which gears will work with you stock carrier.

Cam Break In - Tips for Avoiding Wiped Lobes?

Is your harmonic balancer pushed all the way on? I took a pic of my 350 it is a little blurry but you can see the balancer is under the timing tab. The silver tape is a homemade timing tape. If you tried to use the inductive pickup in that round tube on the timing tab there is nothing below it...

On Start Engine Revs to Infinity and does not idle

The choke brake/choke pull/ secondary air valve vacuum pot at the passenger rear corner is bent way over and I am guessing the carb at some time has been dropped on that corner while off the motor. Beside it not working properly there is possibly other issues from being dropped. Engine off open...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

I had my brake pedal doing a funny thing kind of like yours after I pushed on it and released it would stay down a little for a second and then would make a small pop noise and jump up to normal position. Took a while to find it but it ended up being the vacuum dump switch for my cruise control...

    Traction?

Saw this on a truck in AZ pics are a bit dark but you can see he moved the springs inboard on the frame and then widened the wheel tubs to fit Mickey’s inside the fenders. Would probably fit a 14”x32” slick. That should be some traction.
