    489ci tow build...

Do the simple things to yours as I have done to mine. It will behave like a different truck. Even with the little tiny cam that is in it. Another thing on the L-29 vs PP heads. The L-29s have a 235cc intake port where the PPs are 200.

    489ci tow build...

I may opt to install a spare set of the L-29 Vortec heads onto this engine before we retire it from service. Here is a photo showing the 100cc chamber of the Vortec that is much smaller than the 119cc of the peanut port. Bolting these on should bump the compression up a full point from the stock...

    489ci tow build...

The 454 that was mostly stock in my '79 would barely turn its own tire over with me dumping the clutch. Enter some simple to do mods and it is a totally different engine and far more powerful. The engine in the truck was replaced with a factory rebuild in 1990. Total 100% stock old feller...

My guy. What are the current specs of the 454 in your truck? Everybody skipped that part of the process.

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

One side all finish welded and ready to go under the truck. Burning up the floor doing the newtron dance again! Both tail pipes finished and they match pretty well too! The exhaust kit came off Amazon and was like $155 shipped after coupon applied! I also gave the ends a quick slash cut to...

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

All that stuff took place on Dec 26th. For the next stuff it happened on Dec 29th starting at 4:30pm or so. Already dark. And raining again. For the plug wires, I ended up doing the Frieberger way of separating them with zip ties. I didn't take a photo of that as it was late on Sunday when that...

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

Putting plug wires on #5 sucks as well... So cute and suckass for any kind of power. This should do for any level of power he puts in the engine bay.

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

Putting the number 5 bolts in on this set of headers, sucks. Watching and day dreaming about the new noise... Now its time to weld the muffler to the head piping... Max is getting pretty good at this exhaust and muffler fab stuff. Even though he dislikes it being outside in the winter very...

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

Here we have Max showing us how much he likes working in the driveway in the rain. Hmmm. This is one of the reasons he wanted to get this all done up. There is a significant hole in one of the crappy muffler shop mufflers that are under the truck. He made an effort to plug it, but that lasted...

    Paul's 1972 Truck...

Tard-o didn't even post a photo of the cool work we did. He comes over for exhaust work and we end up doing all kindsa shish to his truck. New thermostat, heater hoses, rear 2" drop shackles, and different headers. Then we were able to get the new 3 inch pipes connected to the header collectors...

What new tools have you got lately?

I picked both of these up yesterday at the local Goodwill bins store. That is where they sell stuff by weight. Electrical stuff is sold for $0.79 a pound and there is no way to test stuff before hand. These are both Made In The USA and full on aluminum bodied. They both turned and so I tossed...

Intake manifold to head port mismatch

Not an issue. Run it all day long. The air in the runner will flow where it wants to be. Could it be better, sure. Will you notice the difference if you change just that one part, maybe but most likely not.

How far do long tube headers hang down

Sorry boss. I just have a '79 2wd 3/4ton that is stock height with a big block. But it wears a set of headers designed for a 1968-1972 BB Nova. They tuck like a scared dog. Here we are just looking casually under the truck. You can see the front crossmember is lower than my collector bolts...

We use those mini starters on all of the engines. They work like champs. From the big block in my truck to a straight 6 in a Nova.

    Bare Hands

Gloves, gloves, gloves. I use them. I make the kids use them. I had a decade of stained black hands that needed to have a pumice stone to get 80% clean. Now with all the chemicals and crap, there is no need to not have them on. When they go on sale I buy several boxes of my size and some for...
