That looks like a good solution for the chip issue but I would still have to come up with a bigger TB. I don't think a 450cfm TB is enough for a 300+hp Vortec. I think I May have another $600 into a bigger TB setup. Someone correct me if Im wrong here. That does look like a great product though.- TWISTER

Thanks.. now you guys have me thinking again.. I was choosing the carb route because I thought it was the best solution for what I want. I just cant spend hundreds of dollars trying to make the TBI work. I planned on a Q jet for this Vortec because I have one and there is one on my 84 plow...- TWISTER

Overdrive or lock up surge??
After some investigating work from what I gather the truck is a 2wd 305 87 and has had a set of 3/4 ton axles put under it w 35" tires. I assume the shift points are set via computer and w 4:10 gears and big tires and a weak motor it's hunting for OD and don't know what to do. This fix I assume...- TWISTER

Overdrive or lock up surge??
I just bought this truck and it has a 700r4 and what is said to be a trans rebuild and it does have a new converter in it. What happens is on the highway it shifts firm but sometime it likes to surge or either between the OD or the converter trying to lock up. I thought I would ask what it could...- TWISTER

It looks to me the best bang for the buck idea on this would be a crate vortec 5.7 w carb intake and carb. I cant see spending all the time and money to get the TBI to work right and the carb seems to be the best idea for me.- TWISTER

Thanks for all the help. So far I was planning on some of the recommendations from Harris Performance on a Summit crate vortec, carb intake and throttle body spacer, 350 injectors and so on. I have done some reading and wondered who has done this in a build thread and what is needed. I was planning on a vortec swap w a cam like suggested by Harris Performance but there sure seems to be a lot of money that needs to be spent on the TBI system to get it to work with a Vortec 5.7...- TWISTER

305 TBI to Best Bang for the buck engine upgrade
Im thinking a Vortec 5.7 with a cam and rebuild. From what I have gathered here I can run the TBI on it but what mods do I need to do that for the TBI. Chip? Injectors? I assume a Vortex intake? And the distributor needs addressed also I assume. Anything I am missing and if someone has done this...- TWISTER
