Car hauler issues. How can I fix this. I dont know trailer parts.

The added plus to this is you could add some length to it and eliminate the piece of wood you have to use under it. I have a tongue jack on my trailer like that, I was able to get the snap ring off and work on the jack itself, then reinstall it once I was done. Take Care, KS in KCK

    TH400 Information Thread

Thanks for posting this thread and the associated links! I'm not inclined to work on transmissions much myself, but want to know what I can so I can have an intelligent conversation with the shop when I have them rebuilt. Recently I started having issues with a TH-400 in my 78 Chevy C20...

    Barn-To-Garage Renovation!

Hi Everyone! Sorry been off the forum for a while, I had knee replacement surgery in November and am finally back to the new "normal" -- it's not bad, just taking a little getting used to. Anyway, the project progress has slowed a bit with the winter weather. However, the contractor got the...

    TH-400 Engagement Delay?

Thanks everyone for the advice, it's all welcome! I'm at a spot where it may have to sit for a little longer, unfortunately -- I am facing knee replacement surgery on 8 November and I'm having to prioritize what I can get done in the time I have left. Never mind that the weather turned to dog...

    Barn-To-Garage Renovation!

Hi Everyone! This project has seemed to take FOREVER, but finally I'm seeing true progress! The house I'm renovating was built somewhere between 1905 and 1909, and it's my belief that the "barn" is at least that old. Originally there was a wooden building just to the east of this building...

    TH-400 Engagement Delay?

Thanks, Nick! Here's the answers I know about: When you changed the filter, did you put two new O-rings on the case side of the filter pick up tube? -- Yes, I was concerned about how "loose" the filter was even after tightening down the bolt, but I read that this is common on the TH-400s...

    TH-400 Engagement Delay?

Hi Nick and Matt! Thanks for the responses, guess I need to clarify my initial post. First of all, the transmission was doing this before I changed the pan, it's a standard-depth version with a drain plug that came in a bunch of odd parts I bought at a sale. It was an annoyance, but after a...

    TH-400 Engagement Delay?

Hi everyone! In my ongoing saga of the 78 2WD 3/4-ton "Blackie" I recently replaced the fluid and filter, plus replaced the pan with an aftermarket pan with a drain plug. After replacing the fluid it seemed to take a lot more than normal (per CSM) to get the trans dipstick to read "full" -- I...

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

Final report: After replacing the driver's side valve cover gasket (again) and the transmission filter/pan (added one with a drain plug) I got the truck out for a short trip around the block -- did good. Tried a couple more blocks around -- still good. Finally, got the truck out on the highway...

    Mangled Bolt Top Shock Mount?

Definitely heed the advice on the Loctite -- someone way before me who owned my 85 GMC had the shock mounts get loose and it made a mess of the holes. Now I have to take the frame to my race shop buddy for some reinforcement on those holes before I start the reassembly process. Take Care, Ken...

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

SUCCESS! Everything is reassembled, torqued, and ready to reinstall the tires. Thanks again to everyone that provided advice, it was a royal PITA but having a good, SAFE, rear suspension setup is well worth it. I had already replaced the front shocks, when I took the rears off I realize that...

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

OK, little steps towards getting this back together. Finally had enough time and felt good enough to finish removing the passenger's side spring and shock, took about every saw blade I just bought to get the front spring bolt out. New springs are in place, everything's ready to torque down...

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

Hi Everyone! As a quick update, I went to a local shop with what was left of the old U-bolts and they hooked me up perfectly -- it was a third-generation shop, very well versed in what I needed. In a matter of minutes they had me out the door with four new U-Bolts made to duplicate exactly...

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

Thanks, I have the knee replacement planned for November so I won't miss my part-time jobs as a road course safety worker, but I'm going to miss a couple of weekends with this balance thing. Greatly appreciate the advice on the U-bolts, I will reach out to some local shops -- they didn't want...
