You do need a return line otherwise it will eventually burn the pump up. I have the same thing in my truck. Buy a fuel pressure regulator with a return

I have to 2nd what bigcountry said-with the valve cover off you should have oil all over the place. Either the oil pump needs to be replaced or you have a blockage some where. I would stop driving it until i checked the oil preassure and before it grenades. Oil pump is alot cheaper than a new motor

Really not a big deal--good thing i had a lot of 5 gallon cans around since the truck was full--but got the new lines on, put the gas back in the truck and am good to go. thanks
I went out to change my fuel lines today and unhooked the return from the regulator and it drained all the fuel out of the tank. So that you know this is a carb 350 with a regulator with the in tank tbi fuel pump. I have had these undone before and never had all the gas drain from the tank...
