    Backing plate replacement?

    Replacing the rear axle (current one is mismatched gear from the front, don’t ask why). The one I got to swap in has pretty crusty backing plates, how hard and what is involved in removing them? Guessing I’ll need to remove the axle shafts?

    Wondering if I need a whole re-seal or just get it rebuilt. Leaking right where the bell housing mates to the trans. Shifts fine, drives fine, just gotta keep an eye on the level. How hard is it to do yourself?

    What have you done to your square lately??

    Well it’s been a while I’ve been busy as hell; but managed to get some done to the ole girl. New shoes,(33/12.5/15) set me back a good bit but it needed them bad. Finally got it painted! Satin olive and my wife suggests black trim.

    Been busy, but managed to get some stuff done recently. Properly installed my choke, and finally got my extended brake lines on! 24 inch braided stainless steel, much better and can turn fully without stretching them. And got my ladder rack on. Looking like a work truck now.

    I attempted to install my new extended braided brake lines in front today. No go! The block on the end of the hose (at the caliper through which the banjo bolts goes) is about 1/8” thicker than stock. Stock bolts only gets about 3 threads into the caliper and it leaks.     What have you done to your square lately??

    I just put a brand new gas tank, sending unit and stuff in in December, so now I’m thinking maybe vacuum leak or carb? I bought carb used for $100, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what’s acting up.
