    Removing fuel tanks

If you are going to unbolt the bed to do this, you might consider ordering a new bed bolt kit. When I took my bed off, I had to cut the majority of the bolts off due to corrosion.

How to turn a half ton into a 3/4 ton?

I would look at TABCO for parts. They claim to be US made or use domestically produced steel. If nothing else their metal is a thicker than any other supplier I have used. I used them last summer to redo the drivers side rocker (inner/outer), cab support and cab corner. Pretty nice stuff to be...

    Vibration

Sounds like you might have put the drive shaft back in a different spot compared to where you took it out. I would take it to a machine shop and have them check the balance on it. It's also possible that the rear end wasn't set up correctly either. If you have access to lift, maybe put it up on...

Do I rebuild my SBC or swap for an LS3?

You need to determine why you want an LS swap in the first place. If it's for mileage, then the trans you have needs to go. You either need to put a minimum of a 4-speed auto or a 5-speed overdrive to take advantage of its efficiency. A old school 4 speed manual will result in similar dismal...
