The smaller of the two plugs on the motor is the plug for that. It should be getting power when the switch is on the "off" position

If it has power with the switch off, your switch is good and probably a bad connection. I'd bet on it being the switch or a bad connection

87 model, dont they have the wiper switch on the column? If so first place I would be looking is that large connector on the column, I believe all the turn signal, hazard lights, wiper control, ignition switch, etc goes through that connector.

I had a CJ7 that did this to me. Turned out there was a wire from the switch to motor that was broke. So I would think it is a switch problem or bad connection from switch to motor. I have an 87 with column switch I'll take a look at it tonight and see if I can tell witch wire controles the park position.

Not mentioned was whether the wipers have the pulse delay feature. If so, check the delay module (clipped to a bracket under the steering column to dash trim plate).

There is not much information available regarding this component but it can make the wipers do strange things. I had a problem with the wipers starting up at random times and, after checking everything else in the system, finally resolved the issue by getting a delay module from the J/Y.

There is now information about the delay module. I gave a couple of them to my dad to dissect and see what makes them tick, so they could be repaired. I can post a couple diagrams tomorrow.

If you did the check as described (all wiring still connected, key in the run position and wiper switch in off) and the motor doesn't run, you've effectively bypassed the park switch.

Since the motor runs consistently in the low/high settings, a grounding issue is unlikely.

That leaves 2 other possible faults:

A broken wire (kc87/crazy4offroad)

A bad switch (crz4offrd)

Unfortunately, getting to either the switch or the broken wire means you're going to have to pull the steering wheel and go into the upper section of the column (that's where wiper wiring usually fails due to constant twisting motion).

Here - just found these - they are the only decent wiring diagrams for the GM wiper systems I have ever come across. All other W/W schematics are extremely vague and incomplete :

Wire color codes may not be accurate for your particular year.

Note to moderator: These schematics are good info and should be made sticky.
