Recently completed an engine build and like the title says….

Concerning aluminum intakes or in my case a used edelbrock performer. I wish I had drilled and heli-coiled the water neck and distributor bolt holes BEFORE I installed the engine.

Note to self aluminum intakes and steel bolts corrode over time.

Always use Anti Seize when working with aluminum. Here is a link:

Note: this can have an affect on torque specs...read up when torqueing bolts.

When you have dissimilar metals in coolant, the coolant acts as an electrolyte and a small electrical charge is created causing corrosion. It's important to make sure everything is grounded properly including your aluminum radiator if your running one. Also you can run a sacrificial anode that will deteriorate before the aluminum. This is why you change your coolant, it turned more acidic and is a better electrolyte.

It also works backwards, you can use electricity to remove corrosion.
