Just bought a 78 K10 shortbed, and want to swap the bed out for a stepside. Can anyone tell me if I will need to change the gas tanks, or will the fleetside tanks work? I may have a line on a bed, but need to know if I need to find tanks too.

The only thing you need is the correct filler hoses, which seem to be impossible to find. I just made mine.

Also, the stepside bed has it's own rear bumper and associated brackets. If you like the look, you can bolt up whatever bumper and brackets you want.

Cool, I'm hoping when they took the bed off they left the filler hoses on it. Not real sure about the bed I found, someone frenched the taillights into the fenders. I guess I could cut them out and weld in patches. Might just keep looking for a better one.

Stepside beds are slim pickens these days. IMHO, if it's got the custom lights but it's otherwise a nice bed, don't pass it up.

Before I bought the truck, I saw several nice beds for sale, and thought about buying one, but figured I would find a truck with a stepside on it, so didn't bother. Now that I need one, I am not seeing too many for sale. The one I am thinking about was one I saw before I got the truck, and I kept the guys number. Luckily he still has it. I am going to try to get over to look at it in the next few days.

Took a while before I found a couple, and I had to buy the whole truck to get it, then I traded my fleetside for one, so out of the two I should end up with a good one..

I thought things being plentiful when you don’t need them and scarce when you do need them only happened to me! Please tell me you’re a “buy high-sell low” guy too.
