Alright so I have a chance to by a 5.7 350 (LQ4) and a 4L60E transmission for $400.00 Supposedly was running and driving when pulled out of a 1999 Chevy Tahoe with 79,000 miles. IF that's true then it's a heck of a low mileage engine and tranny for the year. He said it was an LQ9 but I thought you could only get those in Escaledes and later Silverados (early 2000's)... Guess what I'm asking is, is it worth it? Literally my first time ever buying something like this. Wouldn't have even considered it but the deal was just to sweet in my opinion. Am I right? Don't really have the money nor the need for it right now but can I afford to not have 'em later on??? What should I look for specifically when I go? Anything to keep an eye out for? Thanks for the input;)

the 5.7 was the L31, think the LQ4 is 5.3. Wasn't the 6.0 in the 99 2500s? Pick it up and you can sell it if you need cash before you have a use for it.

As far as I know, the 1999 GMT800 pickups had strictly the Gen III small block and the 4.3 and the 1999 GMT400s (Tahoe and Burb) had the SBC, BBC, and 4.3. So yeah, it should be a Vortec SBC. In that case, I would do it if you give those heads the best inspection possible to make sure they're not visibly cracked or otherwise damaged.

I seem to think there are more educated people on here than me. You sir are one of them... Can't believe I totally skipped over it but yes the 5.7 should be L31. The LQ9 and LQ4 are both 6.0 but the LQ9 has a higher hp and torque output do to flat top piston creating a higher compression. So I've been told at least... Thanks for finding that little/ big mistake of mine.

I say its a good deal if its a vortec 5.7 and 4l60e and a great deal if its a 5.3 or 6.0 and 4l60e. As mentioned before just do a thorough inspection. Check the fluids, pull the valve cover and inspect the head. If its a 5.7 ask about the intake manifold gasket. If its a gen III then you can sell it for much more than $400 and make a quick buck if you dont use it.

He propbably just added LQ9 to the ad because it sounds cool, like 4 bolt main lol.

For 400 bucks I'd take it, flip the trans for 400 and put a carbed intake on top of your new engine and enjoy 100 more hp than stock.
