Replacement pad/barrier that goes under the carpet.

While trying to install my speakers, I found the pad under the carpet soaking wet. I pulled it back and I don't think it rusted through luckily. I'll figure out what happened and fix it, but my question is...

The stuff that is ruined, the pad (looks like insulation of some sort) and some type of black vinyl, where do I find replacement for that? On LMC's website, I see sound deadener and heat shield materieal, but doesn't appear to be the same stuff by the looks of it (different color and materials)

I'm really OCD about things being "correct" so is this what I use to replace my old pad/barrier with?

Jute padding. Cut to fit

I used two layers of dynomat. My original pad was roached from age and heat. The original pad does a great job at retaining moisture which can lead to rust. Once you have the carpeting down, no one will ever notice the difference.

I would just go with sound deadener, it quiets down road noises and tire noises. Check to make sure your heater core isn't leaking and dripping down onto the floor, if it's wet on the passenger side floor

Also check behind your kick panels, they love to rust through and allow water to drain into the cab from the cowl area

Any upholstery shop sells the jute underlament for about $10-12 square yard for 3/8" thick padding. On my truck I painted the floor, sprayed down a 3M rubberized undercoating, then a layer of jute padding-then the new carpet. Interior is quiet and well insulated. I also added the same jute padding to the top of my headliner as well.

Behind the door panels I did the same treatment and on the door shells I added my own custom cut mylar "eater shields" using butyl rope tape. All of this helps insulate the interior even further as well as keeps it more quiet. My 86 K10 is just as quiet as my 04 Tahoe inside going down the road-makes everything much nicer-colder AC, stereo sounds better, conversations are at a lower level, etc.

Id use dynamat , kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Dynamat is a sound deadener but not an insulator.

If you had a big rain, you may have gotten water in through the passenger side vent. My 85 leaks in heavy rain.

Use Lizard Skin. The Jute padding collects water and will lead to more rust over time.
