PVC question

I have a 85 C20 350 that I recently acquired. I noticed the PVC is not hooked up to anything currently. My understanding is the it should plug into the front of the carb (it has a edelbrock). For some stupid reason the post coming out of the carb is bent all to hell. So I guess first does this need to be hooked up? I have seen were some say yes and other say no. Also since the idiot before bent that do you have a trick in fixing it?

Pull out the pcv valves go get a spectra breather from autozone. I've got a breather on both sides of my valve cover. No leaking or oil spray anywhere. The other option is to buy a catch can. Just depends on how much money you wanna spend.

Think I paid about $9 each for the breathers, used a flathead to push it into the valve cover. And was done, even makes the engine bay look cleaner.

Yes, It really should be hooked up. Can you unbend that port?

I don't know, haven't tried yet. Wasn't sure if there was some secret to doing it. Otherwise I would just try to get a flat head in there and bend it back into place. Wasn't sure if a breather would be fine or not.

You really need to have the PVC hooked up properly. If you can't bend it back, I think it's just a standard fitting. You should be able to unscrew it and buy a new one at your local hardware store.

Somebody here posted before about replacing those vacuum ports on carbs, i can't find the posts though. i thought it was swims350. :think:

ok great, I'll just add it to my list tonight and replace it. I'll look and see if I can find that write up too.

I'd just reem'er out get it looking straigt and run a piece of hose to it. Might have to put a hose clamp on it or something. It don't have to be super tight.


Post some pics if you can...

I never done it before, but you do know you can run it off the back of the carb right?

there's usually a 1/4 npt plug in the back that you can unscrew and buy a nipple for it, then connect a hose, or get yourself some vacuum tees and do it that way. I'd bet you could even do manifold vac. because that front port draws vac. all the time.

I had no idea, makes perfect sense though. I'll see if I can correct the previous owners stupidity first. Thanks for all the help guys. I will have more questions I'm sure regarding other issues. I have a ground hanging from the tank and the filler neck seems loose on the tank as well. Those will come after I change the distributor, upgrade ground, fix pvc and heater core this weekend.

You can sometimes find decent looking air cleaners that have the place to hook into.
