What do you mean by flange?

The power steering pumps I'm familiar with have 2 hoses connected to them. One is the return from the steering gear (low pressure) and the end is just made up to the nipple with a hose clamp. Forget about that right?

The other one has a shaped steel piece of tubing for the last few inches.

That's probably the one you mean. That is the pump discharge - it's high pressure and makes up to the pump in two different types of terminations depending on year of manufacture.

Older pumps accepted a double flare (inverted flare) that was a metal-to-metal seal. I think around 1978 -80 GM switched to an o-ring compression type fitting.

The two types look very similar from outside. But they don't mix and match.

If, for example, you have the type of pressure hose that requires an o-ring srewed into an older pump with a female flare connection it'll leak (even if the o-ring is in place).

And, if you are trying to couple a new style pump to old style fitting, it will leak as well.

No ****. But with your large tires your system might not always be working so hard.
