Hey all! Not new to squares but haven't owned one for a few years. For many years I've searched for a 78-80 diesel powered model. Finally hit paydirt and found one a few hundred miles from home. It's a 79 Silverado, fully loaded, and has about 50,000 original miles.

Hoping to find any other 5.7 diesel owners for tips and tricks to keep it running well!

Quick pic of it dirty, can't seem to find ANYONE with this color combo! Wanted to see some more squares in this hue, no luck so far.

How's that Olds diesel been treating you?

Well so far it's been great. Fires right up cold, makes good oil pressure, and when I'm patient enough even gets up to 75-80 mph! I was told this is its second engine, it is the later DX block so that's believable.

It's been many many years since I've seen a running 5.7 square. Proud to own one!

Ahh, I figured as much. I'm sure those early ones are few and far between now. They worked out some of the kinks later on. Glad it's working well for you. My advice is to check the oil and the radiator regularly to make sure everything is okay, but I hope it lasts a long time. I'm sure it'll do fine maintained.

I saw an "all original" mid 80's SWB with a diesel in it on craiglist a while back. I see yours is a long bed. Still cool though.

Ran into a guy with an 80's swb with the 350 diesel a year or so ago. Still running like a champ, but was leaking just as much oil as I am.

Welcome to the board!

Thanks for the pics! I bought one brand new in 1980 with the exact same color scheme. Changed over to a Big block 350 Olds in 1985. Still have the truck and thinking seriously of restoring it to its original glory.....with the diesel.....maybe.... but its not anywhere near the condition of yours. Nice truck!
