Hi folks-

Posting here because I suspect I'll be searching these forums a bunch and potentially asking for help as I do all the things necessary to maintain this truck and keep it running as a DD.

I grew up in this truck. My late grandfather bought it new from C.O.D. Motor Co. in Minden, NV. Ordered it to his custom spec. It's lived in Northern Nevada for its entire life- always garaged. He was a trucker and a teamster and generally a meticulous man, and this truck has been maintained accordingly. He kept all service records, and a good amount of daily driving/mpg records (which are predictably gnarly- 8-9 mpg)

Chassis has ~205,000 mi on it; new GM Crate 350 was installed at ~140k.

I love this truck. I learned to camp and shoot and drive in this rig. I've puked in it at least once. I'm grateful that my grandmother let me purchase it and keep it in the family rather than CL it. I helped my grandfather build the wooden rails that you see in the pics when I was 10 or so.

Everything is stock, down to the Delco radio and the original AC unit (currently disconnected, status unknown.) I aim to keep it that way as much as possible. The bench seat will be replaced or reupholstered at some point to original spec.

I've just replaced all the fluids, plugs and wires, the exhaust manifold gaskets on both sides, the valve cover gaskets, and the transfer case seal. Put new tires on it too, including the spare, which was original (!) One of the beauty rings is missing. Most of my mechanical experience is on '90s-'00s Toyota 4X4s, so this has been a fun departure.

So here is "Big Red." I'll be diving into the forums now to mine the existing info here, but if you've got any tips/tricks/summaries of things to look out for and maintain for this particular model/year- fire away! This truck is a true survivor, and I aim to keep it that way.

Good looking truck! Looks to be fairly squared away already.

Not much advice to give with regards to the specific year other than to keep it registered in Nevada if you can!

It will stay registered in Nevada- I have a residence in Douglas County, which has no emissions testing. The glasspack my grandfather installed probably wouldn't fly in CA...

Welcome Mat, refreshing to see a truck left stock and enjoyed.Part of the charm to these old trucks is their simplicity.

Welcome Matt. Do you have any older pics of the truck with you and your grandpa around/in it?
