Hey everyone, just got another square body today. Haven't had one in a while. Got a 1985 GMC. Had been looking for a good 85 body for years that I could afford, finally found one today.
Got a couple small rust spots in easy spots - quarter size at the driver side corner, tailgate at handle, and pass. door has some bondo on it. Good truck, 350 runs smooth as hell, better than most I've owned.
Seems to have some recent interior work done to her- seat, panels and dash, new carpet also.

Basic plans at this point will be to get rid of the skyjacker lift kit, maybe keep it at 2" lift or even stock, it's too high for my tastes as is, also my wife says my you-know-what got smaller when I bought it.
-Get a SM465 and NP205 in it. Currently has the 3spd with OD, which is just garbage.

Oh, also if anyone is looking for a skyjacker lift kit around TN, let me know. Will be taking this one off soon, would trade for stock or near stock suspension, and if anyone local has a SM465 I got cash for ya.

Anyways, glad to have a reason to be here. Finally found a decent '85

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have a great starting point to begin with. Gotta wonder why the dislike for the manual with overdrive though? Not knocking your choice for the 465, it's a great trans, If my mill didn't wind out at 3500rpm, I'd be installing one of those instead of the np833.

When you do get rid of it (if that is what you decide) don't sell yourself short on it. It's a rare trans and there are more than a few people who would be interested in it.

Welcome! Great looking truck. Clean. And interior looks great. If you do end up changing out for a different transmission, it may help your gas mileage. But, The one you have is a pretty good setup.

The trans in it is bad, and a little bit foreign to me, used to the reverse being on the other side. But, mostly I have been a lover of the muncie with the granny gear for so long I can't accept anything else.

The trans in it currently is bad. Won't go into 1st or reverse. Figured I would just put the old tried and true in it

Fair enough, if your current trans is bad, you have no choice but to correct the situation. That 465 is a great trans. You really can't go wrong with something that was used in heavy trucks for that many years. Having something that is bullet proof, can ease the mind. But, like I mentioned above, your current set-up is not junk out of hand. It is essentially the same trans that Dodge used behind it's big blocks in the muscle cars.
