Hey guys,

I just picked up a 1986 K10 from Arizona that I plan on wrenching on with my teenage son. I don't have much experience but enjoy being in the garage and tinkering.

I like the stock look of the Squarebodies with maybe a 2 inch lift and somewhat aggressive tires that fill the wheel well but don't rub with light off- roading. My truck currently has 35's and I'm guessing a 6 inch lift.

My goal: Smaller tires with aggressive tread, 2 inch lift (?), stock ralleye rims.

My truck:

My goal is to have these exact rims and this size tire:

Can anyone tell me:

1. What size tire range am I looking for to match the ones above?
2. If I need to lower my truck for the new size tires, is it something I can do?

Thanks a lot guys for the advice!

Welcome. If I had to guess, the red truck is sitting on 33's. I've had a couple of these over the years with zero lift and 31's. 33's almost fit without a lift, so they should be about right with a mild 2" - 4" lift.

Howdy!

Red/orange truck looks like 2.5 inch lift and 33's to me.

Thanks guys. Any way of telling what lift the blue truck has if those are 35's?

Greetings Bob from Michigan!

I am Bob... from Michigan...

What part of MI you located?

I assume you didn't do the lift yourself, so without getting positive confirmation from the person who did it, or getting parts numbers off something and cross-referencing it, you may never know for 100%. We can get you 98% of the way there I believe. It looks to me like a 6" lift. Having that big of a gap between the fender and top of tires is why I say that. And yes, you can remove your lift easily enough and install a smaller one.

The red truck looks like a 2" lift with 33's. Below is a truck with a 2" lift, 33x12.5 tires on 15x8 wheels. Very similar.

Whats up Bob! I'm in Three Rivers, grew up in Kentwood though and have family and friends in GR. Small world!

Sharp truck. That's exactly the look I'm after. I do want stock rims though. What's the min. width to handle 12.5s?

No I didnt put the lift on. I just bought the truck from AZ two weeks ago. Slowly going through it and learning. Fixing a transfer case leak now.

I think you could squeeze some x12.5's on 7" wide wheels, but if I am not mistaken the GM ralleys can be had in a 8" wide variety. I would find a set of 8" wide ralleys and call it a day. Does your truck have 6 lug axles?

That black truck is sharp, but it's not mine. I have that saved because I am hoping to move up to 33's in the future also. Welcome to the site, you will like it here. Good guys with great knowledge.

I think youre right. 8" wide from the factory is what I've been told. Yes, 6 lug.

New BFG 33x12.5x15

Well, I finally got the tires, rims, beauty rings and caps. I'm really happy with the way it looks.

I had a set of factory rally wheels that I painted black like that on a '79 I had back in high school. Always liked that look.

Me too. Easy mod too. I bought new beauty rings (the old ones are in the pic) and man are they a bear to get on!

Looks like crap. You sure you want to be seen in it? When should I come and get it out of your way?

Looks very nice! Is that the same lift still?
