Howdy and very nice truck!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the "3" in 3-53T designate it as a 3 cylinder? Will that be enough?

Yes it does. Most powerful version puts out 140 hp to the 6.2s 130 and 315 lb-ft of torque to the 6.2s 240. I thought the 6.2 drove fine. 3-53 should be fine power wise and get better mileage. Also harder to kill.

Been awhile since I posted on here and thought I'd update. I never did put in a Detroit diesel in my truck due to cost and life in the military. Finally got my truck up and running with junkyard 350 out of a '79 1/2 ton. Drives much better than it ever did with the 6.2. Only downside is the gas mileage. I have a buddy that's building a nice 400 small block for me that will get installed next time I actually drive home.

Since its been up and running I've driven it across the country a few times. WA to KS, KS to MS and back twice, KS to TX and back twice, KS to WA and back, and KS to GA. Got stationed back at Ft. Benning where the 6.2 died, and PCS'd again to Ft. Stewart.

Now looking to fix the rust problems that have started. The bed's probably the worst, the lower portion of both wheel wells are rusting through front and back, and half the cross sills are there in spirit. Frame is still in great shape, and the front fenders and cab only have minor problems compared to the bed Want to put a 8 foot stepside bed on it. Haven't had any luck finding one so far.

Here's picture of me towing a bunch of my crap cross country.

Thanks guys,

Danny
